pistol barrels AND carbine/rifle barrel owners?

I've wondered how many of 'us' own both sub 16" barrels AND over 16" barrels for our Contenders.
I own and enjoy both. Lately been more interested in the rifle length. I could get into that 'sell this to buy that" mode.....hopefully with no regrets later!

I don't use pistol barrels much, although I have .357 and 44 mag. 10", I prefer to use the carbine barrels since I can actually hit something with the carbine!

My current carbine barrels (subject to frequent change):

.17 HRM 23"
.204 Ruger 23"
.22 Hornet 23"
.223 16-1/4"
.35 Remington 16-1/4"
.45-70 23"

These are used with either an easy-open pistol frame or a G2 carbine frame, both having walnut stocks.

Oh, just googles "SBR" permit and it looks as tho it's an abbreviation to legally allow purchase and ownership of  one suppressor.
You better believe I did. Since I own a corporation I didn't have to get fingerprinted in Georgia nor did I have to get a letter from the local Sheriff. Just $200 stamp, forms filled, and 2 month wait.
I enjoy the suppressor a lot. I wish I could buy another for a .35 cal barrel. I've also tried to get a permit for use of a suppressor on coyotes. The local warden for my county said he did not know of one [but there could be] but he understood why one would like to use one for coyote control. I own an exterminating company and am often asked about coyote control. Trapping is the recommended service and I sub it out.
I have found that some rare 'permits' can be aquired for pest control. I once had a Federal permit to kill morning dove out of season in an aircraft hangar. I don't remember exactly but it was for either 24 or 48 HOURS. I had to report any leg bands, number killed, etc. The Federal USDA animal control division can get some 'odd and rare' permits if a need arises! The Fed USDA employee I know gets to do deer kills on airports, and islands off the coast of GA and other SE states.

It stands for Short Barreled Rifle permit or something to that effect anyway. Attaching a rifle stock to a gun with a barrel of less than 16" without a permit is strictly illegal. The Super 16's allow you to use either the stock or grip and the gun is legal either way without a permit.

yup. no short barrels on any rifle frame/stock. I don't even consider 'modifying' a 14" barrel as some do with "permanent" extension tubes.
I only have one rifle barrel now in 17HM2....it's 23" long.

The shortest carbine barrel I have is 18" and I like it very well so far. I haven't used it as a handgun yet but I actually think it will work pretty well for hunting. I was thinking of using a sling and carrying it over the shoulder instead of a holster like I do with shorter barrels.

I think I see the confusion due to my OP.
I should have said 'in addition to your pistol frames'. I have two G2s at present. One has several pistol grips, the other fitted in a T/C rifle butt stock and forend.

     I understand your OP question is what do we prefer in Contenders...handguns OR carbine/rifle.  For many years I was strickly handgun...totally.  In fact when TC introduced the first S-14 barrels I thought they were making a huge mistake...who would want a handgun with that long and unwieldy barrel on it.  Then I got a .223 S-14 barrel....man would that thing shoot.  Before long I came by a 45-70 in S-16 version(used it as a handgun of course).  Now I use the little carbines quite frequently and have for quite some time....but I still have many more handgun barrels than carbine, and, if push come to shove, that would still be my preference.

In pistol barrels I have
10" 357 herret
10" 44mag

In carbine barrels I have
21" 30-30  great little mountain and brush gun
21" 17 Rem  out to 300 yards it hits coyotes and fox like a lightning bolt.
16 1/4" 22 hornet rechambered to K hornwey by SSK.  My favorite little calling rifle.  Weighs next to nothing and I can hit golf balls at 200 yards.  Dale

I have both rifle and pistol Contenders.  I shoot right handed, and am loosing  vision in my right eye.  With the pistols I can move the gun over and sight with the left eye.  I can't with the rifles.  I see more pistol shooting in my future.

Interesting discussion.  It brings up a question??   I currently hunt with a Contender super 16 .35 Rem barrell.  It is topped with a Burris 2X7 pistol barrell.  Reading this thread it sounds as if I could stick a stock on it in place of the currenct pistol grip, completely legal.  However, would I then need to remove the pistol scope and add a rifle scope because of the eye relief?

Markc, I just added my first carbine after keeping only pistol setups for years.  It is just as you say, a very handy 16.25 inch barrel in 22lr.  With a variable 40mm Leupold on top it only weighs 5 pounds 6 ounces.  Your 35 rem would likely be even lighter because of the larger bore.  It would be great to carry in the woods all day but I don't think I'd want to shoot it for an extended range session.  Might be hard on the shoulder, I don't know.

I have a rifle scope on one of my pistol barrels, but I don't think it would work the other way 'round.  Even my Leupold rifle scope has a bit more eye relief than I would prefer on this rig.  Here is mine, dwarfed by a Rem 582 and even diminutive next to a ruger 10/22 carbine:

You have what I considered to always be the "perfect tree rifle" for deer. I now hunt almost exclusively with a bow in my 'archery only' county, or else I'd have a similar rig. The .35 Rem doesn't need much barrel length to do it's thing!
I am actually on the hunt for a .38 Spl, Mag, or Max barrel in a rifle/carbine length NOW. Going to have something similar. Yup, I like the .35 bore.

If the muzzle extension is truly premanently attached (silver soldered and/or retained with pins in blind holes) AND it creates an overall barrel length of 16+ inches AND the overall length of the shoulder stock equipped weapon is greater than 26 inches you will have no legal issues.

.........At least until the day when they make it illegal to own a rifle AND a hacksaw at the same time!

14" in 357 max, 30-30, 17 HMR, and a 44 mag rechamberer to 444 Marlin.
Just got a Custom Shop 24" in 357 max from Ed's.

I've got both pistol and carbine barrels for my contender frames. I keep one frame, with stock, set up just for the super 16" 223rem and 30-30 barrels. They are extremely accurate for their size, and easy to carry. The 30-30 will take a toll on the shoulder if I shoot it more than few times. These contenders are very addictive. I have two frames and ten barrels, and am always in the market for more when a good deal comes around.

Sunday I went out with my Easy-open frame carbine with the .223 super 16 barrel mounted and my .17 HRM barrel.  I nailed a woodchuk at 90 yards and got a piece of a coyote at 150 yards in the same field right after I shot the 'chuck!  I was using a reduced load of 9.0 gr. of Blue Dot and a Sierra 45 grain Hornet bullet since I had run out of 40 gr. V-maxes.  I switched to the .17 barrel and shot 4 more chucks; 2 at about 95 yards, 1 at 175 yards, and one at 10 yards.

That was an exceptional day for these parts.
