Encore clean barrel Blues!!!
« on: November 23, 2003, 09:40:48 AM »
For the past week I have been trying several handloads in my new 7mm-08  barrel. Finally settled on one that shoots 1/2 groups at 100 yds. My only concern is that, when I go to the range and start with a clean barrel, the first shot is 3" high, the second 2" high and from then on she shoots OK. I have several other barrels and have not had this happen. Anyone else have this situation. Thanks    hiker270

I do not clean my barrel until the end of the season if I plan to hunt with the rifle.  If shooting targets it is no big deal to shoot a few fouling rounds before shooting for groups.  I have read several times that a clean barrel is not always a consistent shooter.

Yep, The same thing happens with my 22/250. If your going to hunt with it don't clean it before you go.  KN

It's been pretty much that way on every gun I ever shot or seen shot.

Welcome to the world of encore. This seems to be one among many "opportunities" you will have with the encore. I have several bolt guns and they all group with clean or dirty barrels. The only one that didn't was a 7MM-08 encore-go figure. Don
