LeverEvolution performance

I have been reading some reviews on internal ballistics of this ammo and there have been complaints that bullet passes through without expansion leaving next to no blood trail;  I was also wondering why this "Premium" ammo is cheaper than standard rem/win ammo.  Can anyone comment on this?  Thanks, Al

I use the hornady FTX bullet (.458 dia. 325 grain) in my muzzleloader, shot two good sized bucks this year with it. No problem with expansion-you could put a golf ball in the exit holes, there was no blood trail though, it was more like a blood puddle . In the muzzleloader they are going about 2000 fps at the muzzle which is about the speed hornady loads the 45-70 leverevolution to, maybe a bit slower. What caliber are you talking about?

  Thanks Mirage.  45/70 here too.  Is that FTX bullet the same as the 325 grain 45/70 leverevolution?

Yes it is the same bullet in the 45-70 and the 450 marlin.

My 450 left a 3" exit hole at 75yds with 325gr FTX ammo. I am going to use it in my 45-70 this year.

35 Rem LE left a nice big hole going out, and they dropped right there.  338 LE with a bad hit still left a golf ball sized hole and the doe wobbled off about 15 yd and tipped over.  DP

I shot two deer with these bullets in a .243, one in the neck which had no expansion but clipped the spine (dead on the spot), the other I shot running through the vitals.  It clipped a rib and opened an exit hole you could stick a fist in.  Deer turned a head first somersault and kicked three or four times.  Looked like all the blood came out at once in a puddle!

I can't speak for others, but they work well for me.
