.35 Remington From .357 Magnum?

I know this has been done.  I saw a post by MSP Ret that his Handi in .35 Remington is his favorite Maine hunting tool, and I believe I saw that Quick had also converted a .357 to .35 Remington.  So my question is: are the longer bullets stabilized properly by the .357 twist?  I guess the same could be asked of the .357 Max conversion if folks are using longer bullets with it.  Forgive me, I know I asked this on another thread a while back, but my brain failed to file the information in the proper folder....

Most modern 357mag barrels have been reported as 1:15½" twist, both of mine are, so it shouldn't be a problem for any bullet that will work at 35 Rem velocities, I've shot 240gr cast in mine, under 1¼" groups at 100yds.

I've had this thought also.  I really like the .35 rem!  But I also have to say that the Rem won't really do any more than the .357 max will, and it's an easier rechamber.  Of course I already have lots of .35 rem ammo and components and no .357 max fixings.  But it still comes down to a personal choice, to heck with the logic.  If you want it, go ahead and do it.  If not, you'll always regret that you didn't try it.  44 Man

I seriously thought about it a while back when we did the big 3 way swap here with trotterlg's (Larry) help.  My gunsmith screwed up my chamber reaming it to max.  Larry reamed it to .35 and the trade went around 3 ways.  Now I have two Handi Maxis, 16.5 and 22 inch.  I wouldn't part with either.

My twist program indicates a 1-15 twist will handle bullet lengths up to about 1.4", from 1500-2500 fs...that covers most 35 cal bullet weights. 

The only way to know for sure which bullet profile will work best is to shoot some. 

Many of us remember all the fuss over the 244 - 1-12 vs 243 - 1-9.25 and 100+ grain bullets. 

It wasn't the bullet weight but the bullet LENGTH...that caused the problems...going to a RN bullet solved the problem, but that raised all kinds of other heck...anyway...my HB 244 Rem shot 70 gr bullets into all kinds of very small targets over very long ranges way back then. 

I think the 35 Rem FTX "Leverevolution" stuff will give you quite a bit more pizzaz than the 357 Max.

You can always step up to 356/358 Win or 35 Whelen if the 35 Rem isn't enough.

This spring I had Wayne York rechamber my 357 to 35 Remington, but when I got it back the throat seemed real short. So sent it back to him with a dummy round that has a 200 gr hardcast gaschecked bullet seated way out.

I recently go that back from Wayne. Last night I loaded up some of those 200 gr. bullets, but the next two weeks are going to be real busy with the end of the school year for me and high school graduation for my senior daughter. I hope to have a range report soon after that and will share when that happens.

That would be true loaded to  SAAMI 35 Rem pressure, but on an SB2 frame it can do much more using Super 35 Rem data.

At the bottom of your Super 35 Rem load data page it says the loads were from a 22" barrel with "sixteen inch twist" which I assume means 1:16.  So, if that works I'd think 1:15 would be ok?
