An older Model 29
« on: May 27, 2010, 09:48:12 AM »
I found this nice Model 29 no dash yesterday.

What looks like worn areas are only reflections.

I believe its from 1958. Not a reblue, and in really fantastic shape for its age.

John, show us a profile view of the grips on it, please? Those could be cokes?

About as nice as it gets! What a great addition to the collection.

An early 29 like that is my current "Holy Grail" gun.

Took me two years to find a pre 27, blued 3.5" , my previous Grail gun...on to another quest!

Is there any history on the gun, like who initially bought it, why is it in such nice shape?

I recently bought a 6" -2 that looks pretty much like yours. Very clean and still smooth and tight. What a joy to shoot, I love mine. Can't beat the earlier S&W's for fit and finish.

Now I'm looking for a similar model 19, either 4" or 6". Then I will have finally replaced both my earliest revolvers that I foolishly sold off many years ago.

EDIT--Ooops, I knew that didn't sound right. Mine's a -2, not a -3 that I first typed.
