Encore Maxi owners??
« on: May 27, 2010, 04:53:39 PM »
For those 357 Maxi owners......

I have ordered a MGM .357 max barrel. I need to send them a dummy round with my bullet of choice, 180gr Hornady SSP bullet, and instructions to how long the throat should be cut. So this is where I ask your advice.  How long should it be? I have read a few articles online and learned, that in one man's case, 0.020" to the lands was a good "sweet spot" for his best accuracy. Since I have the choice and this bullet has a crimp groove, I would like to get it close. Good thing is, I can always have them take out more later, if needed.  ;D

Thanks, Dinny

When MGM made my MAX barrel I sent them a dummy with the bullet seated midway the crimping groove in the bullet. I had them throat the barrel .020 and this give me adequate room for adjusting the bullet for load development.

Great, another vote for 0.020"  :)

EDIT: I just changed the measurement in my OP, I meant to type 0.020".   ::)
