Cougar attacks cow
« on: May 30, 2010, 12:08:22 PM »
This happened  next door to my daughter-in-laws family farm. There has also been cougar sightings down the road from my son's hunting property in Vernon county about 20 miles away. Altho a neighbor has pictures, the DNR will not confirm.  DNR says it's probably all the same animal that was spotted earlier in the Spooner area........Kinda hard to believe that one cat can lead to all these sightings.

My daughter-in-law's father stopped by tonight and said the DNR was at their place this morning and confirmed the strange tracks in their garden were made by  a cougar......but by themselves were not confirmation that a cougar was in the area. ::)   The tracks were made last night after the rain. When he asked about shooting the animal if it attacked livestock, he was told he would be ticketed and fined until, if and when, an investigation proved it was a legitimate attack.

If I caught one mauling my calf or colt, I would have no need to call the DNR.

Saw on the criminal liberal agends driven news media a few weeks ago, a picture of a cougar that was taken from a trail cam in or around Lena. "IF" the DNR has established with there limited knowledge, no real knowledge of their jobs, and OUR bankroll keeping them in a guaranteed secure job they have no business doing, that it wasn't photoshopped, then there is "1" ONE! cougar in Wis. The dead, couger killed livestock, UNSUBSTANTIATED, the hundreds of sighting, UNSUBSTANTIATED, the fresh tracks that they say are a cougar, UNSUBSTANTIATED, When will the people be listened to, and make the DNR, UNSUBSTANTIATED. In my Humble opinion it is the DNR that is;
Unsubstantial: adj. not having material substance/ not very solid/ having no real basis of fact

A male mountain lion's range is usually about a 150 mile radius as I recall. They are considered a varmint here in Texas. Shoot on site, no season.

no, no it wont.  it will get little to no media coverage and what little it does get, the 'experts' will say that the animal was sick or starving and it is a freak occurance and how the child's voice sounded like a squealing rabbit..... enough to make you want to puke.

From todays Wausau Daily Herald: Big cat visits Weston backyard

WESTON — A Weston woman isn’t entirely sure what she saw last night in her backyard, but she knows it wasn’t any ordinary cat.

Marena Groll, 52, told the Wausau Daily Herald today that she heard what sounded like a cat fight at about 10 p.m. at her home on Lang Lane. When she went outside to investigate, a house cat ran toward a neighbor’s house and a large cat-like animal come out of a wooded area, Groll said. The animal then ran back into the woods after briefly stepping into a lighted area, she said.

Groll described the animal as being about 5-feet long, tan in color with a white underbelly and a long tail. Gross said she did not see the animal’s head clearly in the poor lighting.

Groll said she initially thought the animal was a cougar. After talking with a Department of Natural Resources biologist, Groll said she was more convinced that the animal was a bobcat.

Groll said she was concerned for the safety of the children in the neighborhood and pets.

“It’s an animal behaving very aggressively and we need to be aware of it,” Groll said.

Adrian Wydeven, a cougar expert for the DNR, said the animal sounded like it was a bobcat based on Groll’s description.

“It’s possible, I can’t dismiss it,” Wydeven said when asked if the animal could have been a cougar.

I'm going to try to be helpful here.

1.  We don't need to tell the DNR anything.
  a.  Most of us already know the DNR is NOT our friend.
  b.  The DNR partners with anti-hunting organizations.
  c.  The DNR protects and advocates for predators who compete with us for game.
2.  We know what a cougar or wolf looks like:  Seeing one is "proof" to us.
  a.  The DNR is not sure what a wolf or cougar looks like.
  b.  The DNR is not our friend.
  c.  The DNR finds proof inadmissible.
3.  If predators hurt you or your family, resolve it yourself.
4.  If this is not clear, go back to number 1.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!

Another cougar sighting in Weston

Another cougar sighting in Weston
WESTON — Pete Stelmacher is sure the animal he saw this week in the yard of his Weston home was not a German shepherd or a bobcat. It was a cougar.
“It was about 3 p.m. (Monday). I was out mowing my lawn and it came out of the woods (across the street),” he said. “I thought, ‘Am I seeing what I’m seeing?’ Right away the hair on the back of my neck stood up.”

Stelmacher’s was the second cougar sighting in the area in about a week. Marena Groll saw an animal that could have been a cougar on June 16 near her home on Lang Lane in Weston. Groll said after talking to a state Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologist that the animal might have been a bobcat.

Everest Metro Police Chief Wally Sparks said Friday that his department hasn’t had to deal with a cougar call yet, but he is recommending that residents who see a big cat avoid it.

“Leave them alone and give them a wide berth,” he said.

Consider this.  Most people report a large cat with a long tail.  Bobcats are 1/4 or less the size of a cougar and DON'T have much of a tail!  Hence the name bob, as in "bobbed".  How dumb do they think we are?
