Choate adjustable stock? and can G2 carbine do it all?

Hello,

    This is a 2 part question that envolves getting a rifle ready for my sons,  I was doing this a couple years ago for my daughter and she decided to she did not want to hunt and only was interested in shotguns.  any way I saw the choate m4 stock for the G2 and thought that would be a great starter for the boys once they out grow the .22 so has anyone used it?  what do you think?  now for the G@ I now for me I think there is a caliber for anything as long as you reload I know we have done this a few times on these pages but I am wondering if There is an elk round that a kid could use?  I think the 30/30 AI would work within reasonable range but what are your sugestions?  yes I know the encore would do it but the G2 is lighter and I just kinda like it better.

Carl, I've not shot elk but there are plenty of calibers that should be fine for elk on a contender, it all depends on recoil and your sons. 7-30 waters might be nice if you reload.

Depends on the kid... age, size, experience, maturity all that.

Of course it all boils down to shot placement and the proper bullet.  Many will poo-poo the .30-30 but in it's early day it was a powerhouse for a few years.  Get close, get accurate, get a good bullet in the boiler room and then the work will begin.

I have to admit the 30/30 is one of my favorites.  I think the deer I have hit with a 30/30 have droped hard.  I have been putting the leverloution rounds through my g2 and I am like them alot.  I think that if you "hunt" instead of "shoot" elk that the 30 cal  bullet from the 30/30 is great but like I said that is my 2cents.  thanks for the input.

Can't help on the stock. I have looked at them and it did interest me but that is as far as it went so far.
The 30-30 on the other hand is just fine for elk with good shot placement. The 30-30 has probably killed more deer than any other caliber. I also 2nd the 7-30 Waters. Good luck keep us posted on what you decide.
