Ramshot TAC powder in 7mm-08
« on: May 31, 2010, 12:24:53 PM »
Curious if anyone has used or uses the Ramshot TAC powder for reloading 7mm-08 Remington?  If so, have any load data for 120, 140 or 150 grain jacketed bullets, using TAC?

Well aware, Ramshot lists only their Big Game or Hunter powder for the 7mm-08, but TAC is a good powder for the 308 Win and OK for 300 Savage, which are very similar to the 7mm-08.

Also aware, (according to Ramshot) burn rate of TAC falls between burn rates of other brands/types of powder listed by Speer, Lee, Lyman and etc that are suitable for use in both the 7mm-08 and 308.

I'm perplexed as to why TAC is recommended by Ramshot for cartridges as small as the .223 and as large as the 444 Marlin, works great in the 308 and not shown for the 7mm08, nor the 243 (another necked down 308 Win).

You might try contacting Ramshot and asking them what they would recommend. On several occasions I have asked them for load data not listed on their website and have always been accomodated with a quick response. Two particular times were questions for load data for my .204 Ruger and my .357 Maximum rifles. Johan Loubser, the ballistician at Accurate/Ramshot, seems to have answers for most any questions posed.

As you neck down a given case to smaller bullet diameter, you'll end up wanting/needing slower powders.  I don't claim TAC won't work in the 7-08, but this is probably why Ramshot doesn't list it(?).  For perspective:  In the 243, I like powders as slow as Ramshot Magnum and H-1000 for 100-grain bullets.  In the Ramshot lineup, Magnum is 3 powders slower than TAC, so I doubt I'd ever try TAC in that cartridge for anything.  Maybe the 55s(??), but I don't shoot those in my 243.

tac has the same burning rate as blc2 and in my opinion is the same powder with some variation in lots. Look for blc2 data and you will be close enough. Hogdon gives blc2 data for all bullet weights in the 708

Hogdon gives blc2 data for all bullet weights in the 708. Just because they dont list it doesnt mean it wont work. the ramshot guide is pretty basic. They dont list any loads at all for the 762x39 with any powders. Does that mean they wont work. If it does dont tell my guns.
