Drilling - Full Choke?
« on: May 31, 2010, 05:09:02 PM »
In my quest for a Drilling I have noticed alot of drillings have Full chokes.  Does anyone know why?

Thanks
Doug

I believe it has something to do with their hunting methods, different from ours and when they say full it's usually what we'd call X-tra full.
Most gunsmiths are equiped to open these chokes to whatever you want.

Most of the drillings are old and long ago, with that OLD ammo, you had to have quite a lot of choke to get a decent pattern at longer ranges.  With modern ammo loaded with the wads they use today, you don't need near as much choke.

Thanks.

I am thinking about leaving the chokes Full which would make a great turkey, crow, dove, duck, and small game especially combined with the 22 WMR insert I have.

You really need to pattern it with the ammo you want to use, as it may pattern better with an more open choke, with modern ammo.
