trapping sets
« on: May 31, 2010, 05:30:21 PM »
i have had a lot of success with bucket sets but i want to expand my use of sets and still use the buckets. i was wondering how to secure the bucket to a tree. do you put a nail in the bucket? if so, how do you hit the nail in a bucket? also, any other tips and techniques would be great

You could punch 2 holes in the bottom of the bucket and wire it to a tree.

You might even try to use a drill and screw it to the tree.

I do the top one with snare wire. Personally am more concerned with 2 legged bandits getting away with them than 4 legged.

Well if a cordless drill is not too cumbersome...slip a washer on the screw and use a cordless dril to screw the bucket to the tree. Also don't use white buckets at your sets, try to find the black plastic buckets. These are much easier to conceal...

Yes sir,  I just drill a couple holes and loop the ring off the trap through. Cable is attached to a screw in the tree. Haven't lost one since. They can bring a wire cutter, screwdriver, hook an atv to it or shoot it in half, short of that things should be good.
This is on public land, so a lot of foot traffic. Use the buckets there because I don't want to catch a hunter. Marshmallows and some pureed persimmon or plum and glycerin makes the critters happy.  No buckets gone in about 5 years makes me happy.
