I have a Handi in 204 Ruger and I am looking at getting one in 35 Whelen. The plastic trigger guard and spacer are cheesy looking and I would prefer to have them in steel. I've been searching the forum and couldnt find a answer, does anyone make a metal trigger guard and spacer that is a quality product?

H&R used to offer blued steel trigger guards and spacers, but not for several years, you may be able to find someone that has one to sell by posting a WTB in the H&R WTB forum. Talley was going to offer them, but with tough economic conditions they dropped the R&D on it. But other than some occasionally on Gunbroker that's it so far. $:-\$

Don't buy the Moyers one. I got one from Midway USA and it will require much modification before it will look good... like welding and filling...

With all that said I decided to make my own, if all goes well they should be pretty nice. I already have more time wrapped up into the project then any trigger guard is worth.

I didn't like the plastic trigger guard either so I just whacked it off with a Dremel and put a brass one on.

Very, VERY Excellent...I would bet you could sell every trigger guard and spacer you could make, GM, once you got the machining dialed in and the cost within reason...you might obtain a Moyers and see just what/where the problems are and resolve them...OR...You might even contact Rem to see if you could make a run to sell to them. One way to sell time on your CNC machine. I would be right in the middle of CNC production if I had the initial investment capitol for the machines and wasn't so "OLDENTARD"

Bet some would like brass for their BC's...and maybe a brass "schnobel" for the forends..ala "Quigley down under".

I would even like aluminum pieces.

I made a few steel spacers...relatively easy even on manual machines...but without CNC, doing a trigger guard is just TOO labor intensive.

For the most part I am copying the original with a few small changes that wont affect fit just ease of machining. Although most of the material removal is done I still have 4 more operations to complete, I'll try to get some more done in the next few days. The idea of making them for sale has crossed my mind, although machining isn't the most cost effective method for producing a part like this it wouldn't be cheap to do. I don't want to break any forum rules so lets see how they turn out first, at the very least I should have some nice custom trigger guards.

I made some more progress on my trigger guard today. Although it looks nearly done their is actually a fair amount of work left. I have to make a fixture to hold the trigger guard so I can machine the corner to a 90deg and mill spring pocket 1, then a second fixture to mill a 90deg and spring pocket 2, then a third fixture to hold it so I can machine the radius on the back side as well as the lightning pocket.

Their isn't a problem with the plastic one, it does everything its suppose to and its light. I prefer my guns to be made of steel, their is also an appeal knowing that my gun will out last my children's children. I'm afraid plastic parts will degrade over time, steel on the other hand will last indefinitely if kept from rusting. To each his own.

Anybody know if Moyer's spacer is worth a darn? I have heard the horror stories and seen the pics of his trigger guard. The spacer is actually more of a concern to me.

See the previous thread I posted on Moyer's, the spacer wasn't any better than his trigger guard.

Well I know your opinion of the trigger guard, so I'll put that in the "so much for that" category. still plannig to eventually put the Kentucky rifle trigger guard on the BC, just gonna need a spacer....

I had some time to work on the trigger guard tonight, I still have to put in the second spring pocket, square up the area around the spring pocket, and machine a radius on the back side. A couple more nights and I should be finished.

I finished the last of the machining a couple of days ago but didn't have time to post pictures. I still need to debur them and have them coated in black oxide.

Thanks for the kind words. I am now working on a trigger to match the trigger guard perfectly, an added advantage to making a trigger is that the hole which the trigger pivots on will be reamed and then lapped to the optimal size, minimizing play.

Nice work you are doing. never had a problem with the trigger though $:-\$ to each his own and you are making what you yourself want for your rifle, I totally respect that.
