encore black powder pistol
« on: June 01, 2010, 10:36:53 AM »
I have seen one post on here where a person cut down a 50 caliber encore barrel for a black powder pistol, and I found on that is a decent price that is used. Instead of carrying my bp rifle all over the place during muzzleloader season, I thought this was a good idea, as it is much easier to carry one in a shoulder holster, and have access to it, as opposed to slinging on and off a rifle. Any feedback, negative or positive, on this? And what would be a good barrel length?

I cut an Encore 209X50 rifle barrel down to 17" and I now carry it with a sling.  I have used it to take a couple of hogs and it has proven to be a very effective weapon.

Here is a 75 yard group:

My 209X50 pistols have proven to be a lot of fun.  May I suggest Blackhorn 209 and 240 grain XTP's?  Good luck with whatever you decide!

Ball or bullet?    Nice pig.

Thanks P.A.!  These were all taken with saboted bullets.  I've not been successful in getting a patched round ball to shoot accurately from these pistols.  The 240 grain XTP's and JSP's have worked the best out of the short guns.

I have 2 15" 209x50 barrels and I have taken a lot of deer with them. one is a blue factory and the other is a s.s. custom shop barrel
I am using 90 gr or black horn 209 powder (or goex black powder)and 250 gr bullets and 300 gr lightfield  alpha gold. I have a sling for both of them

They are very effective with in 75 yards. one thing you have to do is watch what bullet you are using do not use a bullet desinged for magnum loada like the hornady XTP Mag. they will not open up well enough
