Just passing through and thought to ask a question; why a standard barrel instead of a bull?

Thanks in advance!

Came across a Ruger scope base for a MKII and had my MKI d/t mounting a red dot. Then came the glance at a MKIII 6 7/8 Hunter. Could've used the provided weaver style base mount but got another Ruger style for it also and carrys a weaver classic. The fluted barrel looks flashy and seems to hold a balance. Holster hosting takes some considered thot for these Luger style Rugers.

It is all about balance in a hunting pistol to me. The standard balance better. It also matches my 10/22!

A bit pricier but my Smith & Wesson Model 41, 6 inch, with Leupold 2xEER scope takes squirrels and Pine Hens out of the trees very consistantly and at ranges that still amaze me.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

I looked long and hard at the 41, but I could not justify the expense.

Got confirmation it has shipped 2nd day air so maybe by Monday I can post pics and range report.

Yes I got to shoot it a little. I haven't been able to compare all the ammo I have, but Remington Golden Bullet and CCI Competition both shoot under an inch at 25 yards with POI and POA regulated well out of the box. I am looking forward to squirrel season. I don't have any pics, but will try to get a couple. I also bought two extra magazines, so I have 4 now.

My best squirrel pistol was a 6.5" adj. sight 9-shot H&R Target Revolver.  I used CCI stinger Ammo, which made it pretty loud, but was still quite accurate and I pinned many tree rats to the trunk when one snuck up beside me and I couldn't turn to get up my rifle.  I'd say to get decent 30 yard accuracy the 6.5 is a good bet.

I have a couple .22s I use for small game. An old favorite was a S&W K-22 6".  The old S&Ws are so smooth, it worked well and carried well in my police holster is used for my S&W M66 6" .357. Now my favorite is a Ruger MK11 HB 6 /78" with a Red Dot Sight I got at a gun show for $75.00.  It is a copy of the Doctor/Burris site on the market now for hundreds less. It is marketed by LG Outdoors, and they have a good rep locally on warranties, if necessary. Mine is 0-ed at 50yds. and  the 3MOA dor fits a squirrel target head jist fine.  I love sitting on my back porch during squirrel season with a MTM Pistol Rest potting tree rats eating my free range chickens feed! Note to self-zero pistol for DRT @ feeder! I love the Red Dot sights, have them on multiple assualt rifles and a Ruger HB 10-22 that shoots very well too.

I've got a MK2 with a 10 3/8'' tapered bull barrel that I successfully used for squirrel hunting.  I put a 4x32 Tasco rifle scope on it.  I fired it right handed with my left hand fingers and thumb wrapped around the barrel and scope.  It worked very well for me, until I sat down and then all that barrel length was a pain.  I think a shorter barrel is better if you are going to scope it and sight radius is not a factor.  Otherwise longer is better............Mike

Been working a lot of overtime and getting dove fields ready when I am off, but have had the chance to run 50 more through the MKIII. These were shot in comparison to a High Standard auto. I shot 25 with each and my grandfather shot 25 with each (His High Standard). With CCI Competition bullets, we were both shooting .5" groups from a rest at 25 yards with the MKIII. The HS shot about the same.

I think these pistols are the best value on the market!

You guys are so lucky, we're not permitted to use semi auto 22s (or rifles) in PA  >:(  I guess they're afraid we'll shoot up the place.
I have a MkIII, but just bought a 617 for PA. LOVE the 617!
