I don't know if that dude killed Natalee Holloway or not, he likly did. But I hold her mother just as responisable as who ever did the actual killing! When you send your sixteen year old daughter of to an island to booze, drug and whore it up, I can see no way any good can come of it.
If she had had to wait to go on that trip until she had gone to work and earned enough money to take it, she just might have been mature enough to steer clear of trouble.

Santiago, Chile (CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot, the suspect in a young woman's slaying this week in Peru and previously considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba, was captured Thursday in Chile, authorities said.

Van der Sloot is the main suspect in this week's slaying of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, who was found Wednesday in a Lima, Peru, hotel room registered to the Dutch man. Chilean police told CNN that paperwork showed that van der Sloot entered Chile on Wednesday.

Peruvian Interior Minister Octavio Salazar Miranda said Thursday that Peru has made arrangements with Interpol to extradite van der Sloot.

Van der Sloot, 23, was traveling alone in a taxi near the Chilean central coastal city of Vina del Mar when he was detained, said Douglas Rodriguez, spokesman for the Chilean Investigative Police.

Van der Sloot was transported Thursday afternoon to police headquarters in Santiago, Chile's capital.

TV images showed him emerging from a black police SUV at the police station. His hair, which had been black in previous images, was red and worn in a close-cropped crew cut.

In Peru, a wake was held Thursday in Lima for Flores, who was scheduled to be buried later in the day.

There is "incriminating evidence" linking van der Sloot to the killing of Flores, said Peruvian criminal investigator Cesar Guardia Vasquez.

The woman's bludgeoned body was found in Room 309 of the Hotel Tac in the Miraflores section of Lima, police said. She suffered blunt trauma to the head, breaking her neck, and to her torso and back, Peruvian police said Thursday.

Van der Sloot had been staying at the hotel since arriving from Colombia on May 14, police said. Room 309 was booked in his name, authorities said.

A hotel guest and an employee witnessed the pair entering the hotel room together at 5 a.m. Sunday, Guardia said. Police have video of van der Sloot and Flores together the previous night at the Atlantic City Casino in Lima, he said.

Two Peruvian cab drivers said in an interview on CNN affiliate America TV that they drove a man matching van der Sloot's description to a city on the other side of the Chilean border.

"He paid me and I took him to Arica, to the border," cab driver Oswaldo Aparcana said.

The man sat in the front seat and smoked many cigarettes, Aparcana said. The passenger told the cabbies he used to live in Aruba, said the other driver, Carlos Alberto Uribe.

The victim's father said he believes van der Sloot is responsible for the young woman's death.

"We have all the evidence to show that the killer is this man," businessman and race-car driver Ricardo Flores told CNN en Español.

But van der Sloot's former attorney, Joseph Tacopina, told CNN it was too early to reach any conclusions.

"I just think we need to take a step back before we get to the 'I told you so' stage, and let's see what the evidence is here," Tacopina said Thursday.

Tacopina said he is not representing van der Sloot and no longer has a good relationship with the family.

Holloway, the Alabama teenager, disappeared May 30, 2005, five years to the day since the hotel videotape that officials say showed van der Sloot and Flores going into his hotel room. Both women are reported to have met van der Sloot at a night spot.

Ricardo Flores said police found his daughter's car about 50 blocks from the hotel. Inside the car, he said, authorities found pills like those used in date rapes.

Ricardo Flores said he did not believe his daughter knew the Dutch citizen beforehand.

Both of them speak English and they struck up conversation at the casino, he said.

Interpol had alerted its office in Chile and other bordering countries of the case and placed them on alert in case van der Sloot tried to leave that country, Peruvian Interpol Interim Director Gerson Ortiz told CNN.

Van der Sloot was arrested in Aruba in 2005 along with two other men, brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, in connection with Holloway's disappearance. They were later released.

In 2007, they were arrested a second time after Aruba's then-chief prosecutor, Hans Mos, said he had received new evidence in the case.

Van der Sloot, who was attending college in the Netherlands, was brought back to Aruba. But judges ruled the new evidence -- which included an Internet chat the same day Holloway disappeared in which one of the three youths said she was dead -- was not enough to keep them jailed.

In 2008, prosecutors sought unsuccessfully to arrest van der Sloot a third time after a videotape surfaced on Dutch television. In it, van der Sloot tells a man he considered to be his friend that he had sex with Holloway on the beach after leaving the nightclub, then she "started shaking" and lost consciousness. He said he panicked when he could not resuscitate her and called a friend who had a boat. The two put Holloway's body in the boat, he said, and then he went home. The friend told him the next day that he had carried the body out and dumped it in the ocean.

You gotta read this. Unreal.

U.S. attorney announces arrest warrant for Joran van der Sloot, suspect in Natalee Holloway case (with video)
By The Birmingham News
June 03, 2010, 4:57PM
Federal prosecutors today announced a criminal complaint and arrest warrant for Joran van der Sloot, a suspect in the death of Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway.

Van der Sloot, a Dutchman, is charged with wire fraud and extortion for soliciting money on a promise that he would reveal the location of Natalee Holloway's body in Aruba and the circumstances of her death.

The U.S. Attorney's office and FBI said that on May 15 van der Sloot extorted $15,000 as a partial payment, wired from Birmingham to the Netherlands.

The total amount he was to be paid was $250,000. The information that van der Sloot has provided to that unnamed individual was false, federal authorities said.

The announcement comes the same day Van der Sloot was arrested in Chile in the murder of Stephany Flores, 21. Flores was killed in a Lima hotel Sunday, five years to the day after Holloway disappeared.

Van der Sloot was taken in a dark vehicle to a police office in downtown Santiago. He made no comment as he entered, walking calmly and without handcuffs as journalists shouted his name, the Associated Press reported.

Van der Sloot was detained while traveling in a taxi, about halfway to the coast on Route 68, said Fernando Ovalle, deputy spokesman of Chile's national investigative police.

The suspect did not resist and has been calm under detention, Ovalle said.

Chilean police are awaiting instructions from their counterparts in Peru, Ovalle said.

Flores, who had been seen with van der Sloot early Sunday, was found Wednesday lying face down on the floor of the suspect's hotel room in Lima, with her neck broken, Peruvian police Gen. Cesar Guardia said. She was fully clothed, with no signs of having been sexually abused.

Authorities found no potential murder weapons in the room, Garcia said.

Flores was killed exactly five years after the May 30, 2005, disappearance of Holloway during a high school trip in Aruba, a Dutch Caribbean island where van der Sloot's late father was a prominent judge.

Prosecutors said van der Sloot is still their main suspect in the case even though he was never charged.

Guardia said the 22-year-old Dutchman was in Peru for a poker tournament and appears with the dead woman in a video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday. The two were later seen entering the hotel by one of its employees about 5 a.m. and the Dutchman departed alone about four hours later, he said.

"We have an interview with a worker at the hotel who says she saw this foreigner with the victim enter his room," Guardia said.

The victim's father, Ricardo Flores, 48, is a former president of the Peruvian Automobile Club who won the "Caminos del Inca" rally in 1991 and brings circuses and foreign entertainers to Peru. He ran for vice president in 2001 and for president five years later on fringe tickets.

A lawyer for van der Sloot in New York, Joe Tacopina, cautioned against a rush to judgment.

"Joran van der Sloot has been falsely accused of murder once before. The fact is he wears a bull's-eye on his back now and he is a quote-unquote usual suspect when it comes to allegations of foul play," Tacopina said.

Van der Sloot was twice arrested but later released for lack of evidence in the 2005 disappearance of Holloway in Aruba.

No trace of her has been found and van der Sloot remains the main suspect in the case, Ann Angela, spokeswoman for the Aruba prosecutor's office, said Wednesday.

"What's happening now is incredible," she said. "At this moment we don't have anything to do with it, but we are following the case with great interest and if Peruvian authorities would need us, we are here."

The mystery of Holloway's disappearance garnered wide attention on television and in newspapers in Europe and the United States.

Two years ago, a Dutch television crime reporter captured hidden-camera footage of van der Sloot saying he was with Holloway when she collapsed on a beach from being drunk. He said he believed she was dead and asked a friend to dump her body in the sea.

Judges subsequently refused to arrest van der Sloot on the basis of the tape.

A spokeswoman for Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty of Mountain Brook, Alabama, told the AP the family was aware of the development in Peru but would have no comment.

Well, looks like the spoiled rich kid went to far this time. Wonder if Daddy's money will make jail time much easier in Peru? What with the connections this family has, he'll no doubt get a much more liveable cell than the common crook down there. Might not be so good, girls father has some connections in his own country. According to the latest news, the S.O.B. admitted he killed the latest victim... and I'd bet my last dollar he also killed the Holloway girl!

He will be singin' soprano for the rest of his life, which I hope is long and painful.  But I think Beerbelly has a really good point - the parents should be held somewhat responsible for even allowing a 17 y/o to go on a trip like that.  The first time I saw her picture when she went missing I knew she had either been killed or taken away and sold into prostitution.  I think the Liam Neeson (?) movie 'Taken' is a pretty close call on that.  jmtcw.

News flash:  Tuesday, 6/8/2010, 7:30am.  The dutchman confessed to the Peruvian woman's killing after or during a 'interrogation' in Lima, Peru.  I guess the Peruvians know how to get the answers to their questions using the 'mysterious ways' of information seekers..............

Good news is that he is off the street and will never get out of Peru's prison system.  My last post stands now correct in that his life will be much shorter but hopefully more painful.................

I've heard that he has spent some of the past few years traveling in Tailand, and other such locations, arranging for girls to work as prostitutes in Netherlands, and other "western" countries. With any luck, a check of his passport, showing where he was at what time periods, may corelate to missing/ dead young girls at those locations. Maybe he was stupid enough to have data on his P.C.'s which police gathered via warrants. I'll bet he's responsible for others; quite possibly very many.
As far as Natalie's parents go, they have gone through enough pain...she was 18, went with a school group, to an area that has a reputation for being safe. Maybe not the best choice they could have made, but not totally out of line, in my opinion. What she did when she was there was a reflexion on her....not her parents.

He spent time in some 3rd world countries. It is not unheard of for people who kill someone in those countries to simply leave without ever being pursued or charges being filed. I recall staying in a pretty nice business hotel when the maid found a dead hooker under the bed in another room. The outcome was the room's guest had already checked out and left the country, the victim was no one special, and that was that. You kinda wonder if this was not just the 2nd time.

The victim in this case was a rich girl from a connected family. The only sister of 4 brothers. Peru has no death penalty in this case, but I bet he never leaves Peru alive.

My daughter graduated a year behind NH at MBHS. Trips to Aruba were replaced with mission trips.  Fault the parents in Mtn Brook for sending their kids out of the Tiny Kingdom with a feeling of invincibilty and very little street smarts.

Heard JvS confessed for leniency, possible 15 yrs. Then he can come to Alabama for 50 yrs for extortion.

I won't fault the parents, but where were the Chaparones?  My son made sevral International trips alone starting at the age of 12.  But he was not given Carte Blanch to do a he pleased.  We put him on the plane, and the people he was staying with met him at the other end.  By the time he was 16, he was totally on his own, and needed no help from anyone.  But he was also Street Smart and knew how not to become a victum.

In all his trips, he only had trouble once.  While in Vancover, a Taxi driver tried to force him and three other Hocky buddies to pay far more than the fare.  When they refused the driver grabbed one of the boys.  Wrong move to make on a minor, especially a hockey player.

Chaperones were there to bail out of jail or sign for surgery. Otherwise, these were 18 year olds, age of majority in Aruba. That's why they picked Aruba.

What the kids do IS a reflection on the parents.  I wouldn't let my 17 yod go on a trip like that.  I couldn't STOP my 18yod from doing so.  I would advise against it strongly but I couldn't stop her.  I would hope that the drinking, drugs and slutting around would not happen but couldn't stop that either if she chose to do so.  I hope that I have raised her better than that.

I hope this dude gets what he deserves out of Peruvian prison, screwed against his will and then his neck broken...  actually I hope they strangle him with his own intestines...

I would be willing to bet that if those  Peruvian interrogator had anyone on this board, they would get a confession! I too think he is probably guilty, but  he should get a fair trial. When you are up against a rich and powerful man in another country, I don’t think that will happen.
