American Citizen Among Those Killed in Gaza Flotilla Raid

Published June 03, 2010

A State Department official says one of the nine people killed when Israeli commandos raided a Gaza-bound flotilla of pro-Palestinian activists on Monday was a 19-year-old man with dual U.S.-Turkish citizenship.

The official identified the victim as Furkan Dogan, who was believed to have been residing in Turkey.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter has not been officially confirmed by the U.S. government.

The official said the victim had been shot but it was not clear who shot him. He was among eight of the dead being mourned at a funeral in Istanbul Thursday.

More exact circumstances of the activists' deaths are expected to be made clear in a ballistics examination that will take about a month to complete, Anatolia news agency reported Thursday.

An official from the Turkish Islamic charity that spearheaded the campaign to bust the blockade on Gaza identified the U.S. citizen as 19-year-old Furkan Dogan, originally from the central Turkish town of Kayseri.

Dogan, who held a U.S. passport, had four bullet wounds to the head and one to the chest, Omer Yagmur of the Foundation of Humanitarian Relief (IHH), told Anatolia.

The nine victims were all aboard the Turkish ferry, Mavi Marmara, the lead ship of the aid flotilla, where most of the violence occurred in Monday's pre-dawn raid by Israeli forces.

Let me see if I get this right.
19 year old living in Turkey with turkish citizenship is Turkish.
If he were under 18 then I can see dual citizenship but at 19 he made a desicion to live and stay in Turkey.
He was a Turkish citizen doing what Isreal thought they needed to defend them selves from and opened fire on him nad his group.
No love lost here.
If it were a US reporter that was shot and killed, again sorry, you picked the wrong side to report from.
What I want to know is why is it not OK for Isreal to defend it's self but Cuba, North Koera, Viet Nam or China it would be OK.

That just hit me. Someone made a quaddruple tap on a boat. Again on a boat in the water hitting an object smaller than a basket ball with four rounds.
now that is trigger and recoil control.
Not sure who that Isreali is that made the shot is but i want to take shooting lessons from him.

I can't buy this dude as a US citizen no matter the passport carried. He was born and lived outside the US has an obviously muzlim name and was doing muzlim business. He's no American by any stretch of imagination.

It is pretty easy to 4 tap. Just line em up kneeling against a wall and pull the trigger 4x.

Did you read today's reporting? The supposed film clips of wounded agressors were filmed in daylight ... the operation was at night. Lots of brass was collected on the scene in calibers not used by IDF, but matching wounds to the IDF. And amongst the 100 detained, of 700, they had over a million euros on their persons. Also among the items of peace were NVGs, plates for bodyarmor. Israel brought in all the non-combat related items to Gaza on their own dime ... the big meanies.

Does Israel do bad things? Yes. But this ain't one of them per the reporting.

I normally try to avoid getting embroiled in political discussions, but the post by TM7 above suckered me in!

US troops getting between the Muslim world and Israel?

Also, there's plenty of blame, suspected set-ups, imagined or real falsifying evidence to go around.

The "aid flotilla" was there to create an incident (my speculation, but I can see no other explanation that fits the action). The IDF cooperated. The only surprise (to me at least) was that the confrontation wasn't a lot more violent.

At some point the Balfour Agreement must be honored.

If the pirate terror raid was an outright Biblical slaughter it would have been unspinable...unless of course they could have sunk the ship and made it disappear...instead this was meant to be a 'political' statement on the order of lunacy...no civilized country needs to carry on inspections in such a manner. And no...I don't believe God was or is a real estate agent..

Dee ya beat me to it ! And when did being American give one the right to break laws in other olaces ? The idoit that got shot was dumb ! Hey when dealing with guys with guns either obey their rules , in this case DON"T COME HERE " or be ready to fight or die.

Or for those that are not already biased against Israel, the facts may very likely reveal the IDF was absolutely correct and the falsification was commited by the flotilla. Seriously, some folks will blame Israel even in the face of bold facts to the contrary and defraud those seeking truths as zionwoevangelicals. Where is the truth in that?

As for the American/Turkish dual citizen ... have we not had this discussion about dual loyalties?

It all boils down to who you choose to believe, but don't tell me you are fair and impartial.
