Spices that are getting the boot
« on: June 04, 2010, 10:41:20 AM »
#1    Coriander
sounds real exotic.  One of those things that mixed up with crushed red pepper, paprika and a little salt will do wonders right?  uh...no.
I just choked down another link that I put coriander in the batch.  no more coriander for me.  I'm gonna finish these links one at a time by saturating them in mustard and french bread until they are gone.  did I mention that coriander will never go into another batch of links that I make?

#2  Lemon Pepper
seems like a great idea right?
okay I've eaten lots of stuff that other people really made lemon pepper shine. And most of the people are asian.  I can't do it.  IT ruins everything I use it in.  No more Lemon Pepper in anything.  I can not make it work no matter how hard I try.  Lemon pepper will  soundly trounce any other flavor.

okay sorry I should have pointed out that by "coriander" I mean the dry ground up powder. I am perfectly okay with cilantro (the green leafy stuff) though my wife and my dad (RIP) went overboard with the stuff every chance they got.... ::)

Coriander goes in Morrocan-style stuff, and maybe some cookies.   Coriander, a bit of cumin, some cinnamon.

I agree with the lemon pepper. Lemon pepper will soundly trounce any other flavor. You ain't lying there. Including the food you put it on. The only thing I have tried it on is fish, and I didn't like it. Of coarse I would never even think about putting lemon pepper on something like fresh caught bluegill. It would ruin the flavor of the fish. Just some egg, flour, and hot oil, and you will actually be able to taste the fish.

When you use lemon pepper don't use any other spices. Lemon pepper is the flavor you are going for. It works well on strong fish. Just don't use too much. If you don't like the lemon pepper flavor that is the reason you shouldn't use it.

I don't think I'd like lemon pepper on any type of meat, but on veggies it's GREAT! Especially green beans.
