Nylon 66

I was wondering if anyone else had this gun?  I bought mine at an estate sale a friend was running for $100.  It has a scope on it and shoots like a champ!  Im not sure how old this rifle is, but what a nice little gun.  I got this one to teach my son to shoot with, but I find myself using it to target shoot with. 

I can put 14 rnds into a can in a few seconds  :)

I got mine in 1968 for Christmas. They are very good guns and at one time Reminton advertised the Nylon 66 as being ideal for commercial fisherman. I gave mine to my son and of course he still has it. You got yourself a good gun. I do remember that the owners manuel said to use .22 long rifle only. So I never shot longs or shorts in mine. But plenty of standard and high speed long rifle loads.

A now deceased, ex brother in law brought me a Nylon 66 in a paper grocery bag once and asked me if I could put it back together for him. He decided he wanted to take it apart and clean it. I asked him if it was jammin on him before he took it apart and he said no. I asked why he took it apart, and he said he FIGURED it needed cleanin. A couple weeks later I took it to him still in the grocery bag. It was a night mare to try and figure out with no schematic.
Apparently these little rifles are like the energizer bunny, they just keep going and going. If you don't take them apart.

I wish I still had mine. I see them in gun shows for $300-700 depending on model.

We both had a pretty good Christmas back in 68. Passing a gun on to a son or daughter is pretty nice as well.

 :D when i read your post i was like wow and had the same flash back when i gave to my 11 year old son karl his next gift will be a puma bowi knife my dad got from grampa

Mine will be passed along to my son when he is old enough.  Its an excellent gun.  I looked into breaking it down and theres just no way....  I'll just clean the best I can and have fun with it.

My S-I-L has a 66 and a few years ago he disassembled it for deep cleaning and couldn't get it back together.  I about tore out what is left of my hair but did get it back together and working.  I messed with it for almost two weeks though.  Don't send another one to me in a bag!

I got one for my birthday in 1972, a mohawk brown, I still shoot it regularly.

It's such a good gun, I bought an Apache Black nylon in the early 80's. 

Both are guns I wouldn't get rid of.

I just picked up a decent one on gunbroker for $250 with shipping. There are some youtube videos on disassembly/reassembly.

I got my dads when he passed almost 2 years ago. It shoots fine, but is very sensitive to hold with all the flex in the stock. I think I'll not disassemble for deep cleaning.

In 1961-62 I was stationed at Parris Island in weapons batallion and worked on the pistol range. A friend had a Model 66 that he bought in the PX. I borrowed it several times for squirrel hunting.

My fathers 1963 was passed to me when I was 14.  It holds the record for 1" blocks shooting without jamming.  100,003 1" wood blocks thrown into the air shot without jamming.  Great Gun!!!!
