Recommendation for Gun Case
« on: June 06, 2010, 09:51:54 AM »
Did a quick search to see if this was already covered, but couldn't find it. Sorry if it has.

Looking for recommendations on a good quality airline approved gun case to hold two rifles (say under $250). Checked what is available at Cabelas on line but it's a hard thing to evaluate electronically. Was looking at the Cabelas "Flight Proof" and "Bullet Proof" cases and the SKB.

Any experience to share on these or others would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have an SKB double rifle case I bought about 10 years ago.  It has a few scratches, but works fine.  It has been banged around some, but has not failed in providing proper protection to the rifles inside.  The SKB cases I have seen are very well made, and reasonable in price.  They are a big step up from the typical $30 / $50 hard cases you see, and should provide a life time of use.  I am very happy with mine, and often use it to carry expensive camera equipment as well.

I bought a two-gun case at Dcks.  Was thinking of the aluminum case but the salesman said a lot of them come back with complaints.  He showed me a black molded case for half the price.  It has worked just fine.

For one single bolt rifle, I use a case that was made for an ATV.  It has a top that slides over the base and can be locked.  I think it is much stronger than the flat cases, but will only carry one rifle.

Pelican, you may find a different case but not better.
