New TC Prohunter ?'s

I finally "pulled the trigger" on a new  stainless/camo prohunter.  After much deliberation, ended up going with 7 rem mag, just needs a trigger job and I'll put the scope on her and get some down the tube.  My question is does anyone use a bore guide for cleaning, and if so, which one?  Looks like Cabelas has a couple, but they are advertised for bolt actions, just wondering if the regular ones work with the single shot TC's.  Also, any other cleaning methods or tips on "must haves" for TC gun care would be great.  Thanks for any responses.

Congrat's on the pro hunter, I love mine, I also love the 7mm mag. the flex stock really cuts down on the recoil and the tally camo mount really looks good wraped around my ziess.good luck with it and remember to shoot stright and often.

Congrats on the Pro Hunter. I have three stainless Encore barrels but only one is a Pro Hunter in 500 S&W mag. I use a bore snake on all my guns and they stay clean and shoot great.

Sinclair sells bore guides made especially for Encores.  I have some but I rarely use them.

I use only coated cleaning rods or bore snakes and rarely use brushes.  Also I only use cleaning tips made of plastic, Nylon or brass.  As long as you're careful in inserting your patches, you don't really need a bore guide.

My cleaning items of first choice are Wipe Out and Prolix.

Thanks guys, can't wait to get it set up and start shooting.  I guess I'll take a closer look at the cleaning process, I just read all this stuff about how banging your cleaning rod around inside the barrel really does some damage.  Sounds like if I am careful, then it can be avoided without the bore guide.

Another quick question.  My frame is off to the smith right now to get the trigger cleaned up and poundage reduced, should be in my hands at the end of next week.  My talley mounts finally came in and I messed around with it last night, just seeing how my Zeiss 4.5-14X50 will look on the barrel once she is all put together, IT LOOKS SWEET! (Thanks for the recommendations Bolewine).  Plenty of clearance for the 50mm objective with the medium height mount and rings (the guys at Cabelas said a medium height would never work with a 50 mm objective, that is why I go to sites like this one to get the real info!).  Anyway, my question is do I use locktite to mount the talley to the barrel?  I have a torque wrench for the ring screws, but just wanted to confirm where the locktite goes.  Thanks.

You can't wrong by not allowing the cleaning rod to touch any part of the barrel but to me the most critical part is to not allow the rod to rub on the crown. That in and of itself will wreck accuracy even if you do everything else right.

I was at the range once and there was a guy there with a 375 H&H. After every 3 shots he would run the brush through at least 20x with rod angling in just raking the hell out of the crown all the while talking real loud..."Yeah, this is what all the benchrest guys do. It's the only way to get good accuracy out of the gun". The best part was, at 25 yards he was barely able to keep all his shots on a paper plate!! I'm still not sure whether that was because of flinching or the muzzle looked like a blunderbuss  .

I bought a bore guide from Sinclair's, and it works well. I use a bore guide whenever I can on every gun I clean. Enjoy the Encore, I know I love mine.

loc-tite every screw on the mount. I had the same scope shoot loose on my weatherby,it was not loc -tited. when I mounted it on my pro hunter EVERY SCREW on the mount got it, so for so good with 100 rounds through the gun, every thing is tight. don't over do it!. put enough on the screw to coat the threds that will enguage the barrel and ring threds. I talked with talley direct and that's the mount and size I was told to use, these guys are really on thair game! again good luck you'll love this set up.

Here is a pic of the new rig, nothing fancy, just a standard 7 rem mag camo prohunter, I had the trigger worked on, it is breaking clean and crisp at 2.8 lbs.  Took her to the range to get the barrel broke in yesterday (quite a process by the way), I'm about half way done.  Got the scope moved a bit, but really not too worried until I get the barrel done.  It shot very nicely, even spit out a .85 group with factory Hornady ammo for my last three shots at 100.  I am really going to enjoy this gun, thanks for all the help fellas!
