Unlawful mixing between the sexes is taken very seriously in Saudi Arabia. In March 2009, a 75-year-old Syrian widow, Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, living in the city of Al-Chamil, was given 40 lashes and sentenced to six months in prison after the religious police learned that two men who were not related to her were in her house, delivering bread to her.

One of the two men found in her house, Fahd, told the police that Sawadi breast-fed him as a baby so he was considered a son and had a right to be there. But in a later court ruling, a judge said it could not be proved that Fahd was her "breast milk son." Fahd was sentenced to four months in prison and 40 lashes, and the man who accompanied him got six months and 60 lashes.

don't drink? Ha! Check the sides of the bridge from SA to Kuwait, Qatar or the UAE at low tide, and you'll see rows of taillights. I was stationed in SA in the mid-90s, got to go to Bahrain once ... clubs were packed with Saudi men, Russian & Phillipina prostitutes, and the booze was flowing. I did some post-grad in Amman, Jordan; the joke is Christians/Jews own the liquor stores, while the Muslims buy. Oddly enough this phenomenon is a topic of study in comparative theology ... the more tightly the religion limits behavior, the freakier the folks get. This is pretty freaky, but there's worse.

Of all the thread topics on ANY religion, this is by far the weirdest of any I have read since joining GBO several years ago. I would also have to agree with TM7 that there is most likely more of it in the western world than Islam. In the Untied States it's became a badge of honor almost to be queer. Given all  what the latter is about makes breast milk seem pretty tame.

That and the fact that in islamic world  anything controversial, spiritual, or culturally signifigant gets moved on up to the mullahs (congregation elders) to digest and discern worthiness or unworthiness; than they issue fatwa (statements or bulls) on their decisions for the direction the Culture is going to take.  Far simpler than our system which just seems to tolerate all manner of deviations, until it works it's way into 'courts', or somebody gets hurt.

For a suicide vest you're right, they got it from someone who probably had an agenda larger than theirs that benefited from it. The little boy who was forced to ride a bicycle loaded with explosives and fuel out of fear for his kidnapped sister. He was being used to test the range of our vehicle electronic countermeasures by someone with a remote detonator. He rode right up to the back of one of my convoys trucks, weeping. Then slowly fell back until he was outside the bubble, and boom ... no one else effected. Just a dead little boy doing somebody else's work. Then there's the svied that killed my boss in Karmah, the hit on missionary doctors in Jibla ... just a couple Ive got some first hand experience with that someone else was the puppeteer.
