WIN. model 62A slide action rim fire problems

HI Ya'll I am a newbie here and I have a question for any one.. Have this Win. rim fire slide action 62A rifle that won't load when you pump the slide.. It looks like the cartridge stop lever won't open up far enough to receive the cartridges.. I don't get why this is happening.. Everything appears to be in good shape. there is not supposed to be a spring there to pull it open so I just don't get why it won't open.. Any suggestions?

The ctg. stop just pivots in a groove. Does it pivot freely? If not, is there grease, crud, rust or any other corruption in the groove making it bind?

Cornbelt you beat me to it.. I would also add are you using the correct ammo.. The 62A was primarily made as a 22 s,l,lr arm but there were 22 WRF versions made and the carriers won't interchange.. The link at the bottom is to a parts diagram for the 62A.

Another question on the 62A: Anybody know the thread size of the assembly screw?
