The magnum has arrived.
« on: June 10, 2010, 05:39:44 PM »
I got the call yesterday that my 22 mag sportster arrived at my dealers shop. I have tomorrow off... the weather forecast is calling for a sunshiny day and I've got 300 rounds of ammo already. Should be a good day. ;D
If is shoots as good as my 22 versa barrel the small game and varmints around here are in real bad trouble. ;)
I'm thinkin' about getting another new Redfield scope for it... I've got one on my 22-250 and I love it.

What are you getting Daman? I am excited... it's been years since I had a 22 mag. My last one was an ultra varmint and it shot great... it really liked the Dynapoints.
Good luck with yours. ;D

Ruger KMKIII6

MKIII Stainless 6" Standard Taper Barrel

Sports South Exclusive. Matches my 10/22 perfect. The UPS truck should run about 5:30 with it, so maybe about 6:00 I should have it in possession.

Got it... shot it... love it. ;D
I got the superlight 22 mag so it carries and balances just like my 22 versa does and the extra oomph is nice... it should do nicely on small game and varmints.
I'm gonna try some of the fast hollow points for it now and see how they shoot.

Spanky, I've got 2 22mag, An ultra and a H&R Model 700 semi both perform well with CCI
Maxi-Mags HP+V. They don't group quite as well as some of the lower velocity but in their
usable range are devastating on small game & groundhogs. Just don't body shoot anything
you want to eat ;D These are the first 22 mags I have owned since the 60's when I had a
Mossberg "Chuckster" One or the other is always in my pickup at my camp in Chenango Co.
NY. Good luck & happy hunting. PS: Great for the ferocious chipmunk ;D  Fred

Ive just tried some of the Rem. version in an H&R-UV and, other than a scope adjustment to get POI where I want, they are driving right in where Im lookin'. The hits on my steel critters is a good splash, but almost no rock, and they arent leaving a crater (thus not damaging my silhouettes). Yet to hit a varmint, so no feedback on that, but according to the other reports here it will do the job.
Downside for me is that with the WW Dynapoints, 45 gr. @ 1500fps, Super-X 40gr @ 1850ish, and these at 2200 (?) I have to re-zero. Maybe I need another rifle?

That's just as good a reason as any to get a new rifle. :D

Be sure to give the Winchester Supreme 34 grain hollow points a try. They shoot very tight groups out of my 22 WMR Sportster. If your gun likes them, then you're in for a treat!
