New squirrel rig
« on: June 11, 2010, 05:00:51 AM »
Guys my new squirrel rig will be at my smiths in a little while (later today). I just ordered two extra magazines and an easy loader for it.

It is a Sport's South Exclusive MKIII 6" Standard SS. Comes with two factory mags so I will have four before squirrel season.

Do any of you hunt small game with pistolas?

In a pinch I have used a Ruger Single Six and I love the accuracy of my Ruger MkII...Over the years, both have collected many rabbits & squirrels.

Used to do quite a bit of squirrel hunting with handguns.

For .22's I mostly used an old Ruger Standard model 6" or a Single Six 5.5".  My favorite caliber though was .38/.357, using .38 wadcutters - they really put them down with authority.

Always tried for head shots, but if that wasn't available those wadcutters would anchor them real quick with just one body hit.

Anyway, sounds like you got a nice rig, no doubt it'll get the job done!

Four magazines? It sounds like you are planning to do a lot of missing. Ya know ya can't miss fast enough to kill them.  :o A single clean shot to the head is always better than any number of fast shots.  ;D

I have no intention of spraying and praying! I only take headshots with 22's on squirrels and no I don't think 4 mags loaded up with HP's will be necessary to kill my limit of 8 squirrels per day. I ordered the extras so I could do more plinking and less reloading, also they will allow me to not have to carry extra cartridges loose in my pocket when out hunting.

It is better to have and not need, than to need and not have.
