Bark on when smoking?

I want to try some of my own apple trimmings for smoking.  What about the bark?  Do I leave it on or cut it off?

I leave the bark on fruit wood.

I do as well. Also use bark only for hickory. A lot easier to peal off a shagbark than to chop it down or chop limbs off.

If the bark smells like mildew or mold cut it off. Then smell the fresh cut wood surface, if it smells moldy you might want to look further. I have also used wood with powder post beetle holes in it that gave a slightly musty flavor to the meat. eddiegjr
