Trolling Motors

Does anybody have any experience with the Minn Kota powerdrive trolling motor? Santa is bringing me a new trolling motor at christmas, any input would be helpful.
                                      Thanks,

You musta been a good boy.

Minn Kota IMO is making the best trolling motors right now.  I've ran MotorGuide for years, and am still running a MG, but when I change it, its going to be a Minn Kota.  They are a far superior motor to what MG is making now, and no, its not the plastic shaft.  They are quieter and have less problems.

That said, I want a 24 Volt with the most thrust available in it, and infinite speed control.  If I've got a powerful motor, I don't have to worry about the wind, and when it quits blowing, I can always ease back on that dial some.  The 24 Volt motors will give you a much longer battery life that with 12 volt because you are halfing the amperage required to produce the power.

I'm not sure what the models are, but, from experience, the simpler the steering design the better.  I know there are all sorts of new electirc powered steer trolling motors around.  I'll stick with cables.  The facts are, if a cable brakes from repeated stowing and dropping the trolling motor so will a power feed wire.  Its a lot easier to replace a cable than to figure out which widget you just burned out from shorting a wire.  I keep extra tm cables on my boat just in case, and I have changed them several times on the water.
