There is a Saying that Washington DC is where Southern Efficiency meets Northern Hospitality.
Having been Born a Yankee, lived in the South and have southern family.  Dad from Md and Mom, Texas, and Step Mom NC.
I can see where the two clash in wanting to get things done. 
With people moving all over the country due to jobs and education, I don't really think there are any that are true Southerners or Yankees that do not have one or the other in the family.

I think you meant Liberals, true there are more Yankee Liberals then there are Southern Liberals. I've known some great folks from the old Yankee states.  In fact my wife is one of them, and even though I'd never want to live up there, visiting ain't too bad from time to time.
