 i was out shooting my 16 inch dpms ar10 yesterday and shot one of the best group ive ever shot with a rifle of any kind. 5 shots into  7/16s of an inch at a 100 yards. Load was a 150 seirra flat base spitzer using 414 and a ww primer. Unbelievable how well the ar platform will shoot. Most of my bolt guns wont come close even with match bullets let alone hunting bullets loaded progressively on a hornady lock and load. Had the trigger done but its still 4lbs with some creap and I was resting the gun on some sand bags in the front only. It would probably be scary with a good rest and a 2lb trigger. It was done with a leupold 2x7 scope too not a big target scope.

Nice shooting man! I think most accuracy problems are shooters anyways... guns nowadays especially are capable of rediculous accuracy out of the box!  ARs, high end bolts, even new manufacture aks can produce amazing results in the right hands.  Marksmanship is a lost art for sure, but I for one don't want to see America lose it for good.  Take a kid shooting and hunting!

What model do you have?  AP4, Sportical, Oracle?  I used to have a DPMS 308B that shot like a dream and I've always wanted to replace it.

mines a sportical. But it came with a free float tube.

Nice group ! what is average for the rifle ?
I just put an AR togather , will bed the upper and lower soon I think . I want to shoot it some first . It has a free floated hand guard and flat top upper with 20 inch bbl. I got a lower kit with adj stock , thinking an A2 stock may be better ?

most loads go into an inch. Ball ammo that i have goes just under 2 inch

id guess mine goes around 9lbs. Probably a lb or 2 lighter then a m1a. Still plenty heavy though. I toted it around last deer season and it got a little old.

That is great shooting. I also want to build a AR-15 this summer. I checked out the DPMS 308 AR 10 at the gun shop and have to admit I got a little excited. It is a very nice gun. Good luck with it. Take care Dale

My buddy has a DPMS AR10LR in 260. It is a tackdriver bar none. By the way I have to shill for DPMS, my buddy was a returning soldier from Iraq, DPMS sold the retuning soldiers rifles at below dealer cost to show their appreciation. My friends has his unit crest on it, the Red Bull.

No Lloyd the SPS is like my 22-250. Mine is the Varmint version with the heavy 26" barrel. I don't know if his is the varmint or not because they also make it in a sporter barrel that is 24". I have heard reports of others that could not get them triangle barrels to shoot as well. That really is sad seeing as they even cost more. Dale

Do they make different uppers or upper barrels like .358, .338 Federal, 7mm08, .243?  If they do and they aren't too expensive, maybe buying a lower and adding uppers later would be nice.  Could use one gun for everything from mice to moose.

You can do that with the AR 15 platform. You could buy a 204 Ruger upper for small varmints and the 450 Bushmaster for anything else in North America but to answer your question yes you can buy all kind of differnt uppers for the AR 10 platform. Like the 243, 260, I think the 7mm-08, 308 I am sure there are more I just can't think of them at this time. Dale

I knew about all the calibers for the AR-15 platform, but the AR-10 with .308 magazines in which the .308 cartridge was necked up and down for various other calibers also.  The AR-10 is more expensive and less popular, so I didn't know if they made many other cartridge uppers.

No Lloyd mine is not the triangle barrel version but rather a standard weight 24" SPS that I had shortened and recrowned to 20".

Last week I used a Tubbs Final Finish Barrel Polishing / Lapping kit. It greatly helped with the copper fouling and my groups are beginning to get better. Today I fired rounds # 8, 9 & 10 since I had last cleaned the barrel after the shooting Tubbs kit.

That 3 shot group today measured exactly 1/2" center to center. Yep I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The load is 165gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with VARGET in Winchester Brass with CCI BR2 Primers.

Congrats Lloyd Smale on your purchase and great group.  I have both the DPMS AP4 in 16 inch medium contour barrel, and the DPMS LR 308 in 24 inch heavy contour barrel.  Both rifles shoot under 1 MOA with the reloads I use.
