357 max pressure question
« on: June 15, 2010, 06:51:01 AM »
I am shooting 180 grain SSP bullets with 28 grains of 1680 and a Rem 7 1/2 small rifle primer in my 357 Max on an SB-2 frame. Anybody have an idea how much pressure is being generated with this load?

Best advice is contact the ballistician at Accurate Arms,  johan@ramshot.com , he'd likely be able to tell you,  depends a lot on COL tho. I ran it thru QuickLoad which is just a prediction, but their 26.5g max load at 2.383" COL which is seated long w/.200" seating depth, runs 43.1kpsi, 28gr is 51.8kpsi.

I am using 30gr AA1680 w/180ssp, Rem case, wsr primer, seated way out with no pressure signs. Am getting right around moa at 200 yd in a 24" Encore. Also 22gr H110 with 180xtp or 180ssp is scary accurate in this gun, little slower, but sub moa at 200yd.

Does the length of a barrel have an effect on the chamber pressure or just the velocity and cartridge overall length?
