There is nothing wrong with a Taurus 669. I had a 689 and loved it. Wish i still had it. I currently have a S W 66 and I would feel just as comfortable with the taurus.

You know, I've been guilty of making such a comment once. I felt bad about it. The shooter had a Hi-Point.
I asked forgiveness, and I got over it. :-\

Had some friends once give me a hard time about packing a ladies gun ( Lady Smith 65-5 in 357 mag)  I put  six holes in a 5" circle standing with left hand on hip.  I then let them try my Super Vel in thier snubs.  Last time they gave me a hard time.

I have a Taurus model 66 357Mag that I used for my concealed carry qualification.  The two guys that were instructing the class were all over it because they thought it was a 7 shot S&W, but when I told them it was a Taurus they reacted much the same way you describe.  My Taurus has always performed flawlessly and is very accurate, so what gives?  Guess I should have paid nearly triple for a similar Smith so I could claim bragging rights!

I have owned 5 or 6 Taurus's in assorted flavors.  In my opinion, the problem with Taurus is quality control (it's all over the map), and poor service.  It amazes me to pick up a new Taurus revolver, for example, and find it to have a beautiful polish and fit, then find it is way out of time, or like the last one I looked at, the grip screw was turned so tight, the head had broken off the screw.  If you get a good one, great, but if you don't (very likely), then good luck getting it serviced.  I have had several go-arounds with them that left me about as angry as I have ever been.  This included a 9mm auto with the bad habit of unlocking early, resulting in blown cartridge webbs, split frames, stuff like that, twice, with the same "repaired" gun.  With factory CCI and Federal ammo.  I think the big difference is companies like S&W and Ruger maintain high levels of QC, and bend over backwards to help if there is a problem.

Larry, you are probably right.  The only Taurus pistols I have shot were my 66 and my two son's model 85 revolvers.  One of theirs is the steel frame 38 and the other is the Titanium frame 357.  All three of these are good guns, but that is a very small base for a reliability survey.  I would like to sometime get a revolver in 480ruger and have considered a Raging Bull but I just can't get past the cheesy look of them, although I haven't heard much negative talk about them.

It was said at one time, oh that's an American rifle and not a Holland and Holland.
Shoot what you got and if your good with it who cares what label it wears. I would rather be able to shoot alot and be comfortable with my guns, than be concerned with what someone else had to say.

When I went through the Sheriffs academy I had an old ruger service six (department issue)that looked like it had been drug behind a truck. I easily shot in the top 5 of the class. I was given a hard time about it until the people talking saw the target had a much higher score than thiers.

You got a good gun feed it regular and it will do you just fine.

Well, I must be one of the lucky ones.  I’ve owned seven Taurus firearms, shot the heck out of them and never had problems with any of them.  I sold/traded three because I thought I needed something else and not because I didn’t like them.  Heck, I’m sorry that I got rid of them.

Why own several and proceed to attack the quality of the firearm?  I know that if I owned one that was a turd or had problems with the company’s warranty, I wouldn’t have bought another one. That’s why I won’t buy any more consumer products made by two major US corporations that have names that begin with G.

Out of several Tauri I've owned, I still have 4 (or 5 maybe?) and will gladly buy more with just as much healthy skepticism as I'd apply to any other firearm. Had a 32 Ruger Bisley BNIB day after it arrived to the store from the distributor that the front sight screw went into the bore - glad Dad spotted it before he took it out shooting. Ruger replaced it with a BINB 44 Bisley, and I didn't stop buying Ruger over that. Everybody has a bad day, some more than others.

I get the "oh one of those" comments when I show up at an IHMSA match with my Bisley, and shoot standing with irons, instead of in the creedmore with a scoped BF.

had a guy giving me grief on my rock island 1911 while i out shot him and his very expensive 1911, it also had a few problems while we were shooting. when i was picking up my gear to leave i asked him if he was considering carrying that "jam-o-matic for self defense. Got a very dirty look.

I have had Rugers , Brownings and Winchesters all come with problems and all were fixed by the factory. Taurus on the other hand returned the gun un repaired .

Everyone has problems its how you deal with them that counts.

I have had four Taurii(?)  ;) and still own three of them. I traded one for something I wanted worse than it but there was nothing wrong with it. I was at the range this morning shooting some handloads in my PT1911 and 24/7. Had my first problem ever with the 1911, a fail to fire. Shucked the round out and it had just as big a dent in the primer as all the rest I had fired. Slipped it back in the gun and "BAM". That one is on CCI, not Taurus.

I guess I have been lucky as I just haven't encountered any problems at all with them.

I bought my first Taurus a PT99 in the 80s and still have it.  Sinch then I have added a PT1911, PT111, PT145, Model 85 (?) in 357MAG. and 22 RF Tracker and a Model 94 22RF.  I have had good luck with all of them and am completely happy with them.  I also bought a Taurus 63 copy of a Model 63 Winchester.  This rifle was finicy and did have a problem in that a pin in the mechanism kept falling out until I replaced it with a roll pin.  Then the rifle worked just fine and was a great plinker until I traded it off for something else.

I have two Taurus and two Rossi pistols and have never had a single problem with them. I do or have owned Colt, S&W, Ruger, AMT, Glock and a few others. One of the worst pistols I ever had was one of the first S&W 686s to come out. The finished look like they forgot to polish it before they blued it and it felt like the action was full of sand it was so ruff. You could not fire more than two cylinders of ammo in it before it heated the metal up enough that the cylinder would bind on the forcing cone of the barrel. The only reason that I got it was I had it special ordered and HAD TO TAKE IT. It did not take me long to dump it. One of my Taurus is a Mod 66 357 mag with a 6" barrel. I had not shot it in quite a while so it went to the range with me last Monday. It is probably one of the best shooting pistols I have. It is just plain accurate. By the way a fellow at the range saw how good I was shooting with it and he made the comment, "That sure is a good shooting S&W Mod 19". I corrected his mistake quickly. ;D

I just traded off a couple taurus revolvers to get a new semi-auto CCW pistol, was sorry that I did it.  the pistol was less than reliable, now I'm paying off the small one I traded in awhile ago (38spl bodyguard) to get it back BECAUSE it shot really good out to 25yds and was reliable (after over 2,000 rds).

maybe the qc at taurus is off?  I am sure than a majority of their guns are good, and if you/me/whoever get a GOOD one, KEEP it and use it with pride.  a fancy lemon isn't as good as a good "value" brand.

I'm lookin' for "one of those"...three to be exact.  A Millenium Pro, a 24/7 OSS and a little bitty .44 Mag Tracker.  Haven't owned a Taurus before....but.  Having carried a .45 Colt for about 30+ years and having owned many, I can say that back in the "olden days" that any Colt (bless their little steel  hearts) you bought, you had to "modify" before it would shoot, almost without exception.  This included polishing the feed ramp and chamber and tweaking the extractors so they would feed and eject. Sights...what sights?  I still have one and it has been tweaked, so it's reliable and runs good.  It's wearing an American made Springfield Armory barrel as well.  The Colt barrel was a p.o.s. that wasn't accurate and leaded like crazy.  So, everytime I see someone boo-hooing about the Taurus's....they need to experience an old Colt. Oh...did I mention having to change the barrel links and bushings?  I have a box full of 70 Series split bushings....
I let you know later if I need to eat any crow.

I have owned 3 Taurus firearms and still have two.  All 3 performed reliably.  The one is traded was a 9mm Titanium Millenium pistol that was too much recoil for my wife.  Kinda wish I would have kept it because it was so easy to conceal.  My other two are Trackers; my favorite being the 45 ACP with a 4 inch barrel.  That thing is accurate as the day is long.

I have a Taurus Model 65 in .357 that had a trigger problem after the first hundred rounds or so. It would lock in double action, single it was fine. I sent it back and six weeks later my gun was returned functioning normally and some 750 rounds later it still continues to function.
I also have a Marlin 1894c in .357 that I bought new in April. After a few hundred rounds the front sight fell off so  I sent it back to Marlin in late August and they still have it.   The point is ANY manufacturer can have problems, that's why they have warranties.

I have a Model 80 .38 "4. Made in '77. Ran everything hot and mild through it. Only repair ever was when the cylinder got dirty and would drag the forcing cone. 20 seconds with the wife's nail file cured that. No further problems. And to be fair I have had a Smith Model 10 do the same thing. BUT... Taurus' customer service does not impress me..... At all!!  I called them once about +P loads and they answered the phone "Hello"..... And still had trouble getting info.
