Worlds quietest crossbow
« on: June 17, 2010, 12:43:43 PM »
I would like to hear from others on their experiences with loud/quiet x-bows.  Looking for a replacement this fall.  My experiences are with Horton and Barnett.  Both Horton's I've had have been virtually indestructable .  The 1990's Supermag was actually ran over on the limb when I let my cousin borrow it.  It was pretty loud and deer jumped the string all the time.  Replaced it with a Hunter and I never killed a deer with it.  It rang in a D flat and I could never get it quieted down.  Switched to Barnett and the first Wildcat was so quiet The deer never knew what hit them.  I had it back twice for warranty work (trigger and top piece scope mounted on).  Replaced it with a Wildcat C5 and 3 years later the limb cracked (never dry fired and good heavy carbon arrows).  I can get the prod replaced under warranty (it had the lifetime, now only one year), but it will still cost over $75, or I can just buy a new one for a little over 100.  The two things I am looking for most are QUIET and accuracy.  I'm not looking to spend a testicle on it.  What say ye...

The PSE tacII is quiet and superfast if you can stand the price. You use your AR lower , or buy the PSE sub lower. Otherwise my money is on the Horton vision 175 with inverted limbs. It is so much easier to move with and handle in the tree.Pretty quiet too.

Quietest? That would have to be the Scorpyd line of bows. They use the reverse limb (Reverse Draw Technology = RDT), and therfore have a longer power stroke, fastest speeds with much less draw weight. The 100 lb will shoot 330+ FPS (85 lbs+ KE, the 125 lb will shoot 370+ FPS (110 lbs+ KE), and the 165 lb will shoot 425+ FPS. All of these have a 20" power stroke, that is where you get more speed with less poundage, which all transfers to LESS NOISE!

My RDT 165 should be here in another week. ;) They dont show the 165 on the web page, it is new this year. It uses a machined forged riser with solid Barnsdale limbs. I have bowhunted since 1973, with recurves, longbows, compounds and have paid my dues. My eyes won't let me see clearly through a peep/pin arrangement, and my shoulders are worn out, with arthritis complicating things worse. So I can't shoot every day like I used to shooting traditional, and the eyes are not nearly as sharp. I decided I could either sit on the porch and TALK about bowhunting, OR get a scoped crossbow that lets me shoot in the 10 ring again. I elected for the latter. It is just another form of bowhunting in my eyes, and I don't give a rip what others opinions of them are. I hunt for my pleasure, not theirs. ;) As long as it is legal, I don't care what you hunt with, and neither should anyone else.

I have shot all the major brands models, and most of the minor brands, Scorpyd is the quietst line to my ear. These bows are quality, through and through as well.

Give the Scorpyd line a look, they are the quietest, not the cheapest. You will have to do a google search to see pics of the 165, at least until I get mine. I will do a report on it when it gets here. The 125 (370+ fps, 110+ KE) is more bow than anyone needs really and is the smoothest quietest bow made, next to their 100 of course.

He builds much better bows than he does keeping the website updated.
