Check your security settings to see if there is some sort of block of redirects. Technically a picture posted here from photo host is a redirect to another website.
Can you right click on the x and bring up the photo properties. If you can copy the url of the photo and paste it in your browser address line and see if it will open.
If it does, then I would suspect some sort redirect block....that's my my guess....
