« on: June 20, 2010, 12:16:28 PM »
ok i picked up a box of 95gr cast round nose and i have power pistol and titegroup.  does anyone have data for either one of these powders?   i am also pretty new ot the reloading thing.  i am loaading for a taurus tcp and not sure that since the barrel is so short if charges change for barrel length?  oh and should i be crimping the cast or the jacketed bullets?   thanks.

My Lyman lists loads for 95 gr FMJ only.  However, the Titegroup loads for 95 gr FMJ, 90 gr Jacketed HP, and 90 gr cast are all the same, 2.4 gr-2.7gr.
Power pistol loads for these rounds are 3.5gr-3.9gr, 3.6gr-4.0gr, and 3.8gr-4.3 gr, respectively.
Now the load info that came with my Lee .380 die set is a little different. They have 95gr jacketed listed with 2.7gr-3.2gr of Titegroup, and 4.2gr-4.7gr Power Pistol. There were no cast loads listed.
Given the fact that cast bullets require less powder than jacketed, I'd say start with a mild load & go from there.
Personally I shoot 100 gr TC cast bullets over 2.8gr of AA#2, and 95 gr cast RN over 3.5gr AA#2. Occasionally the longer TC bullets will jam in my Kel-Tec, but never in my Bersa. I doubt you'll have any soprt of feed problems with the RN bullets.  As far as crimp goes, your definately going to need one.  I would suspect your dies are set up for a taper crimp, rather than a roll crimp.
What brand of dies are you using? Are they carbide? If not you'll need a case lube so they don't stick in the sizing die.
As far as barrle length goes, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  I've never heard of a long barrel .380.
If you're hesitant to use the loads I've listed here you can always contact the customer service dept at Titegroup & Power Pistol.  I've done that with Accurate & Alliant with success.
Good luck with your loads & be sure to p[ost your results.

The current issue (June) of Handloader magazine has an article on loading the small pistol calibers, .32acp, .380 auto and 9mm Makarov.
They list a 90 grain cast with 2.5 grains Titegroup for 772 fps from a PPK (3.35" barrel).
Looks like they have a lot of good info there, you might want to pick up a copy before they disappear.

I've loaded a lot of cast for my Beretta 380 using Bullseye.  You will need a good crimp.

Yeah, I've used Bullseye also. It just seems the AA  regulates more precisely out of my RCBS thrower. I really need to get the small cylinder for it.
