Glock pistols have been very popular for a long time, does anyone have any idea of how many of them have left the factory, or precisely, the popular ones like the Model 17? Are they all made in the same Austrian factory?
I have read of the Ruger and Remington models coming out in the millions, but not sure on Glock.
GLOCK showcased production gun number "2 million" at the 1999 SHOT Show, the total production number now, has to be well above that benchmark.
Parts are still made in Austria and some of the parts are made here to comply with import restrictions, they are shipped to their plant in Smyrna Georgia where final assembly, quality control and testing are completed prior to shipping.
I have a friend that is somewhat in the know at GLOCK and he reports that they have received some large CNC machines that many believe will allow them to make the frames and slides here at our local plant, the rumors persist of the U.S. micro 380, single stack 9mm and a carbine being produced locally here in my hometown.
I have owned 7 different GLOCKS since the early 80's and have nothing but good to report, they are an excellent company, sell an incredible product and their customer service has to be seen to believe.
Since the Metro Atlanta area customers are close, I have seen and heard personal accounts of people simply walking in to the GLOCK factory in Smyrna, they will tag your firearm at the gate, you will be sent to a nice reception area, a representative will take your firearm back to the Tech's where they will completely disassemble and replace / update the parts on your various pistols, they will also add any accessories you would like also.
They do this to update and replace older parts. when you go make sure to take all of your magazines as they will inspect, function test and many times replace free of charge with brand new magazines.
