« on: June 22, 2010, 08:29:40 AM »
How does it compare to the a bolt ? Can"t find any real user info on the x bolt. Thinking of buying one real soon and don"t know which to get.

I don't know anything about the xbolt. Never read a review either. I do know the abolts are nice rifles having owned one a few years ago. If I could abide a bolt gun it would probably be a abolt.  ;D

The X bolt has less metal for the top strap of the reciver than the Xbolt . that is why there are four mounting holes for the rings .
The Abolt has as proven itself over the years .I also see Xbolts showing up in the used market at lot more than the odd A bolt .
There in is the reason I bought a new A Bolt this spring .

Why would browning try to fix something that isn't broke ?  Less weight ??

Cost to make? the X-Bolt uses a synthetic material for a magazine if I remember correctly

Yes!! less metal less cost.Just noticed today the A bolt trigger guard is not metal either .The mag in my Tikka is Synthetic also and seems to hold up.
When metal is removed as a cost measure in the reciever I have some concern.

I picked up a X-Bolt in 270 a few months ago.  It feels better in my hands than the A-Bolt and that's why I got it.  I topped it off with a Zeiss Conquest and have been very happy with the rifle.  It has an excellent new trigger design that's user adjustable, you can unlock the bolt while still on safe for unloading, and an excellent recoil pad.  It is also glass bedded and the barrel is free floated.

The detatchable magazine is polymer but it feeds buttery smooth.  The fact that the magazine is made of polymer does not bother me one bit.

As a side note, the bottom metal on my X-Bolt and every one of them I have looked at have been made of metal.

Used to own a Abolt, just didn't do anything for me. Bought a Xbolt last year and love it. Mine has the dura touch stock and it is smaller than my abolt stock that felt more like a fence post. As for the less metal on the top strap, putting more holes in it would make it weaker. The rotory mag is the best I've used on a centerfire.I don't see many used abolt for sale here, but I've never saw any used Xbolts for sale. Bottom line they're both great, get the one you like best.

That's a good point.  To me the A-Bolt stock feels like a block of wood compared to the X-Bolt's stock.  I ran across a good deal on a used A-Bolt the other day.  It was the Stalker model and for some reason the A-Bolt does not feel as good in my hands as the X-Bolt does.

I don't see many used Browning rifles up for sale in my neck of the woods any way.  See an A-Bolt once in a blue moon but have yet to see a used X-Bolt.  I'm happy with mine so thats all that really matters to me anyway.

Well it got here yesterday ! Since I couldn"t find any gun writer reviews here are my first impressions. Very light, nice satin finish, no trigger adjustment necessary. free floated bbl., very livively, jumps to your shoulder, palm swell helps hold it steady and it is easy to carry and bring  on target. I bought a .308 just for deer hunting but it will be awhile before shooting. Thanks to all you guys who helped me decide.

Guess Country boy is still looking for some glass to put on this rifle .

Well My friend my A bolt bought a while back is a safe queen , until there is some coin to do the same .
There is nothin' wrong in going that , and you just gained a daughter in law .

I am still adding to the swear jar as present .
Take care!!
