After a lot of tweaking and 4 coats of hand rubbed Minwax Tungoil Finish I think she's ready to shoot.

Looks mighty nice Swampman.  Too pretty to shoot - you ought to sell it cheap before you dirty it up.   :D

A GP is the nicest production ML available, IMO.  I took mine apart, made a "browning" box out of plywood, and browned all the metal parts.  Left the stock as is.  It came out nice, but not as nice as the one in the photo.   I've read articles on the finish of orignial Hawkens.  Some say they were more black than blue (like the Lyman), but others say they were brown.

IMO they were rust blued, which comes out a deep satin black.  After years of use they look brown.
