.22 ammo by mail

Has any one ordered .22 ammo by mail? Is it a pain? Can't find standard volicity shorts around here.

it's no problem at all.  I can find a larger variety online than at a gunstore.

I'm going to try it. Off topic, but have you ever tried buying ammo from Wal-Mart? I couldn't get to thru that there is a difference between .22 Mag and .22 LR. I was even point to the Winchester .22 Mag box.
Not doing much better on line. Every one I have tried are out of SV shorts. I may try to find some SV target LR

BTW - FWIW, it's against USPS Regulations for ANYONE to mail loaded ammunition.  (USPS Regs carry the force of Law)

That is why, when ammo is ordered from a catalog or online, a common carrier, like UPS, is used to transport the ammo.

Don't forget to consider the extra shipping cost..not just size/weight cost, but hazmat charges.

Loaded ammo isn't subject to hazmat restrictions or fees, but it must be shipped ORM-D ground UPS or Fedex.  ;)

  I stand corrected...I have been holding off ordering  that way because of what I thought were excessive hazmat charges. How costly are these fees you mentioned, say for a couple bricks of RF and a couple 20@ boxes of  .223 ?

Just regular ground shipping cost, there are just some marking and minimum carton strength requirements, I think there's a limit of 3400 rounds too.

 Thanks Tim; I must have been confused ; is it just the primers and powder that are listed as hazmat ?

Yes, but primed brass can be shipped ground UPS or Fedex to CONUS destinations without hazmat fees also.
