The problem with public schools is not the teachers or the teaching.  It's the other kids!!!

+1  I erroneously thought that since my boys were home schooled and I was an instructor at their karate that I wouldn't have to worry about them growing up to fast and learning certain life lessons too early.  We were at the park last month and two girls that couldn't have been any older than 10 or 11 were swinging beside my eldest son Evan.  I was a few feet down on the baby swings with my youngest son when Evan walked up and asked me why someone would want to put a certain area of human anatomy in their mouth.  I was floored when he told me what the girls said.

On another instance a little boy told my middle son that he shouldn't kiss his mother, and that if the older kids saw that they would make fun of him.  Luckily for me Bradley just said oh well I love my momma! I run across all types of kids in my profession.  When you think about it, we get the kids that have parents who care enough to at least put them in karate, and some of our kids know too much for their age and are very disrespectful to their parents and just cruel to the other kids...but not for long or they don't act that way at the school for long anyway.  I can't imagine how 'bad' the kids are who have parents that don't really care at all.

When I was about 5 or 6  and my sister was 4 or 5, we went backroad hunting for grouse with my dad & mom. The grouse come out on the gravel roads to pick grit and dad would plink them with a 22. The first grouse dad shot that day my sis asked what were we going to do with it. Mom said we'd eat it. My sister asked if she should spit out her gum - she was ready to eat it feathers and all right then.

My oldest grandaughter, who's six, was playing the game of what does an animal say with her mom. She answered moo for cow, baaaa for sheep and so on. Suddenly she asked her mom what does a deer say? My daughter thought a few and answered she didn't know, what does a deer say? At that my grandaughter answered....Bang, uh oh...I'm deer stew! ROFL So when here last I asked her what a turkey says, without hesitation she said...Gobble Gobble BANG! Uh Oh I'm pot pie! Out of the mouths of babes. lol When her dadf wrecked her mom's truck she told her, " Don't worry mommy, he'll be sorry later! " He was too, when he had to buy her a new truck! LOL  I'm proud to say that many schools around here offer archery classes and the instructers even take the kids interested in it hunting come bow season.

Not really much point in shooting "deers" unless they can be eaten after they are shot IMO.

HEATHER. Those young girls were probably repeating what they hear and learn at home, and thats sad. You can never totally isolate your children from things like that. You are wise to homeschool, they will be better off in some ways, but they still must learn somehow to interact with kids their own age. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Heather, the problem with many kids today is that they have parent's but not mother's and father's. By that I mean that their parents rely on tv and video games to be mother's and fathers or they just let their kids run wild without a clue what they are doing nor who they are doing it with. As long as the kids aren't in their hair they seem to care less about what they are doing. Parent's don't spend the time with their kids as parent's did in years past. Untill my kids were old enough to be on their own I knew who their friends were. Untill they were in their teen's I knew what they were doing usually too. By the time they were in their teens I trusted them enough to make wise decisions on their own and I'm proud to say they did. I always told my kids like this. I grew up pretty much alone. Know why I stayed out of trouble? Because I had to rely on myself to get out once I got in. My grandmother was to old and poor to be much help and I wasn't about to lay it on her. I told them That I could teach them right from wrong but the final decision was their's alone on what they did. If they got into trouble once, I'd help them out to a degree. If they were to continually get into in trouble? Welll if you got in on your own you can get out on your own! If it clearly wasn't their fault I'd do everything I could to help but if it was because of something they deliberately did, knowing better, then good luck paying the price. I wouldn't love them any less but wasn't about to allow that kind of behavior to ruin my life because they might choose to ruin their's. I took time with my kids to know their dreams, loves and problems. Know what? I'm proud to say my kids were never in serious trouble even once. My son is a proffesional Certified Executive Bodyguard and runs a very well thought of security firm and my daughter is career Navy in her 12th year of enlistent and gaining rank at almost twice the rate of normal.  You are to be commended for the way you are raising your children. Keep up the good work! :)

You must not farm in an area where deer eat acres of produce and grain a night . Like most hunters you see the deer as a quary . You rate it high . In many places farmers see deer as pest no better than rats and crows . They are a cost on the bottom line . Here you can get damage stamps and if possible take more deer in season , if damage is occureing at to high a rate you can get permission to shoot them anytime even night . I have a hard time with a garden making it due to deer . I plant less than a 1/8 acre and have seen as many as 17 deer in it at night . This year we have one with at least a 21-22 inch spread so my garden is my best food plot  ;D

We don't see that many on my family's farm, and it borders a state forest.  You must live in a place that has actually as many deer as the State fish and game folks claim that there is.  Here, they lie like rugs to attract big-city "sports".  We do have a couple of bears though.  They don't do any harm either.  What do you do with them after the night's shooting is over, shootall?  I had a neighbor once who had a deer problem (back when they were really that big of a problem).  They raided his strawberry patches at night.  Those strawberries were part of his old-age income, and he got permission to shoot the deer at night.  In the end the game warden took them (dressed off) and sold them to folks who wanted to buy them. At least they didn't go to waste.  Deer aren't damaging my property, and neither are the bears.  As for "Quarries" I was raised to eat what I shoot, and I pretty much do.

In summer they are covered with ticks and get left where they fall or pushed into the woods . I have only used damage stamps in hunting season and the deer we shot became dinner guest of hornor. Here i have heard the game dept estimates that double the derr tagged get killed . From what i have seen in over 40 years of hunting they most likely are right.
Many will make statements of the waste but its nothing to walk a creek and see 10-12 deer a mile or less dead from diesese .

My son and I archery hunt, hunt rifle season and muzzleloader season. We love to hunt and eat what we shoot. Meat goes into the freezer and often a whole deer will be made into jerkey. half for us and half to be given as gifts to family and friens. I brain tan the skins and use the tendons for sinew. The antlers, if any, get made into buttons and knife handles more often than not. My son is often called by the police to put down deer hit by cars. He runs a security firm and often patrols at night checking on employees and is well know by law enforcement and it keeps oficers free to do other things. As often as possible, if the deer is edible, the meat is donated to local food pantries for the needy. I'm all far someone killing an animal for the sake of feeding themselves, their families, or to protect propery, but not too thrilled about those that kill just for the sake of killing. We manage our land to improve deer herds and habitat for wild turkey's which we love to hunt too. They taste good when smoked or fried.  ;D

Couldn't agree more , but some who have not seem entite crops wiped out by over populated deer have no clue as to the loss of income some farmers deal with . I have had entire deer jerked its funny how such a large critter can fit in a couple gallon bags after being turned into jerky  ;)

I've seen deer eat 2/3 of a neighbors 15 acre alfalfa field over night. He asked me to thin the herd.

My son is almost 40 years old now. When he was in grade school he got a call from some slightly older girls from his school that had no idea that I was on the extension phone while he was away for a few minutes. Those little darlings invited him over so he could enjoy some felatio( not their term) from them. :o :o

didn't most of you grow up using ACTUAL lead in your pencils, using lead based paint, LEAD soldered water pipes, pewter utensils, LEADED gas and such...

why all the hysteria now about lead and eco-nut fears (of course the anti-gunners use it but I mean in general)
do people who thing lead bullets in deer is poison not know that lead isn't like mercury?

I just don't get the fear at all.
