My horse ran a wolf off this morning.

This morning, shortly after dawn when I let the horses out, I opened their gate, and caught a flash of gray up on their pasture.  Jim, my Appaloosa, took off after him with his hooves pounding and mane flying.  The sucker made it through the fence before Jim could nail him.  It was a sight to see, and very comforting to know I have local wolf control.

Gave old Jimmy a half dozen   I wish he could have nailed him.  It's a funny thing, we have a great big dog that's Great Dane, Boxer and Pit Bull.  He's a buddy with the horses, chickens and cat.  But the chickens and horses know the difference between him, a wolf, coyote or fox.  The chickens don't like the cat at all.

Kathie's been keeping tabs on the GP rescue here abouts.  She's making noise like she wants another one!     Something about the bad wolf problem we got around here...

Richard, Hiya.  I didn't know you had a wolf problem in God's Country South.  What've ya got there, the red wolf?  Neighbors across the road and a quarter mile north got a GP puppy a few weeks ago.  Yesterday, he got in the garbage and got whacked.  He turned around and bit her arm.  She whacked him again and he bit her leg.  I know they're strong and independent dogs, but what gives

A spinning and weaving friend of Patty has sheep and two GPs.  Not old dogs.  Anyhow, one either died or had to be put down because of genetic defects.

Patty wants sheep, alpacas and a pair of GPs, cause it's the only way to keep the others alive here.  I don't want no more critters fer me ta take care of.  I'm too old for that crap.  Plus, if you loose an alpaca to a wolf, it's a few grand down the pike.

My neighbors, the Millers, who are having livestock killed right and left have Border Collies instead of GPs.  They round up their cattle with 4 wheelers, so I can't see any logic in keeping dogs that won't deter wolves.

Shoot, we don't since I got Angel!  Even the coyotes done left the 'hood.  Kinda like usin garlic to keep away the vampires.     Now if I could only teach her to recognise carpetbaggers...

I dunno     Kind of strange behavior for one.  They are bred to protect.  I'd sure find out though.  If a full grown GP takes it into his head to bite you, I'd think you would have a real problem!

GP's are beautiful creatures, but in this part of the country they have to be well fenced as males tend to roam.  The heat and ticks are a problem along with keeping them groomed.  Since our main predator is the coyote , folks needing to protect their sheep and goat herds without all that extra hub-bub are replacing GP's  with donkeys or burros.

Even my beagles keep coyotes at a distance, but wolves here are another matter.  They are bold and brazen and come right up in the yard.  They can't be shot, even with good cause.  They're always around, daylight or dark.  I have not shot one......yet.  It's just not worth the problems.  If they threaten my critters, they're gonna be history....and I'll deal with the problems later.

I had a pony mule that would run off anything on 2 or 4 legs, including the chickens.  She caused us so much trouble I had to give her away.  My neighbors, the Millers, with the wolf problem, got a llama a while back to protect their sheep and calves.  He was totally useless and they got rid of him.  Patty's .270 and my .308 kept the coyotes off the lambs.  They were pulling the new born kids right out of the ewe giving birth.  I'd love some of these PETA people to witness that and calves being eaten alive by wolves.

We need to re-assert the fact that a man has the right to protect his family, friends and property.  I'll fight for that to my dying day.

Lloyd, you may have the right idea, they have adoption programs out west for Mustangs and Donkeys.  All of us on Da U.P. need to get a few.

Richard, the Rendevous is in Blaney Park, MI every June and September.  It's mosly Harleys, but there are others there too.  The June one is the big one.  If ya take a map of Da U.P. and follow U.S 2 across the bottom, you'll come to Blaney about 70 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge and I-75 connecting Upper and Lower MI.

When i was Wrangler Kathy, years back, our horses went after the packs of dogs that ran the woods. Got quite a few stomped!

Old Jimmy is worth a million bucks the way he is.  I don't think he's gotta be trained to kill wolves.  It looks like he's ready to go now.

Nobody borrowed my .223 .  I told the Millers they could use one of my .357 Maximums if needed, but they haven't as yet.

Katherine, feral dogs can be worse than wolves........and that problem is simply due to human irresponsibility.
