I agree with everything posted, Tim is THE man, no doubt.
I first "met" Tim on the Huntsman/sidekick forum

Tim does have a mean streak though....I still LMAO when I remember his review of the lever gun scope on Cabela's or someplace.  wish I had a copy of it.

Bunch of great guys here on this site too.

Thanks!! Not mean, just honest.  ;) Cabelas doesn't appear to sell them any more, I have no doubt why!!  :D

Congrats on your new toy Quick and an even bigger thanks to  all involved in making it happen!
I have shot several thousand 6X45 rounds in a XP100 with a  14 " barrel for silhouette matches, even though I was told it was too small of a bullet it managed to shoot enough 40 scores to qualify for the National Match in Raton.Head shots on the ram at 200 meters was jus as easy as the chickens at 50 meters . It is a super round that also drops deer right in their tracks with an 80 gr SSP bullet traveling at 2990 fps. If you would like some reloading data pm me I will be glad to share. Bad thing is I have a 223 superlite just setting there................... get the away Satan ;D
Cases are a breeze to form just run new 223 brass through the resizer stuff in some powder and go to shooting, then a little trim to uniform length  and enjoy
I hope it shoots as well as the plaque Looks :) ;) :D ;D

Tim, I'd be curious about that.  A deer round?  I guess it could be done, many have been killed with .22LRs.  A lot of folks claim the .223 is a deer rifle.....not in this neck of the woods.....our deer need some puttin 'n stayin.  I've seen them drilled through the lungs with an '06 and go for a mile.  I ain't inta dat crap no more.  Too old.  I like the big/slows.  Dey knock em off der feet an dey stay dere.  Ya drive yer pickup to em an takes em home.

Ya know, I'm finding reloading is making a huge difference.  Now, that 6X45 would be a fun thing to play with.  I imagine the recoil would be about like the Daisy I had as a kid....Oh! Forgot! they recoil forward.

Thanks Jeepmann, I'll PM ya for that data.  ;)

Pete, the 223 works fine on deer with a good bullet and proper shot placement, so the 6x45 with bigger bullets ought to work fine on the blacktail deer that I'd be using it on, a doe averages 100-120lbs, they aren't big northern whitetails. I'd use it anywhere here that I'd use a 30-30, 85gr partitions would be one good choice. We put in a group application for an anterless second deer tag in the Coweeman unit, there were 10 permits available, we got 3 of em, so we're gonna have venison in the freezer for sure!! ;D

Thanks again everyone!

Congratulation Tim, for the award of this fine rifle you will like this caliber 6x45. As you know I have a simular rifle a 6x47(222Rem Mag case) which is incredibly accurate I use mostly light bullet 52-58gr for yotes. Thank you for all your help to all of us.

6 mm Quick Improved = 6mm TCU which is the almost twin brother to the 6 x 47 and the 6x45 is very close to them all All very good accurate cartridges. ;)

Great news on the doe tags, Tim....yeah you're gonna have venison.  Can you use those open sights or are ya gonna scope it?  The thought just occured to me you could always sell them to offset the cost of the dies. ;)

I kinda considered another stainless .45-70 (which you have)  blown out to .45-120........but, I was worried we'd hurt the old man. ;D ;D

No, I'll just scope it Pete, I'm thinking a 2-7x would work great on it.

I'd like to think I'm too old and wise to get hurt with a 45-120, been there, done that already!  ::) ;D

Sorry to tell you that I have not had my kayak out on the lake yet. It has been so cold and windy and I don't like to paddle with a spray scirt, because you sweat like a fire craker.
This coming week looks good for weather.

Been out only once for gophers, same thing blowing too much, could not hit a thing, one gopher for a whole bunch of shots, not only that but the grass is getting too high to see the little buggers. But summer must be just around the corner.

I should have stayed another two month in Yuma, ha?

Sorry to hear that Fred, hopefully summer will arrive soon!!  ;)

I found probably the most comprehensive source of 6x45 data that exists for anyone interested, he even has his own test barrel, although most of the data is from published sources, much is calculated tho too.

Since Les Baer started building AR's in 6X45 there is ammo offered for it by I believe Black Hills. If memory serves me I think they are getting 2800 from 80-85 grain bullets. That is a neat caliber, and I have been looking into just what you got for about a year now. I was kind of looking at the 87 grain v-max for yotes.

Wayne York deserves all the credit for the 6x45.  He came up with it based on the fact Tim didn't have it, brass was readily available and easy to form.  So Thank You Wayne, Sir.  If Tim enjoys it half as much as I am enjoying this.....all his friends saying thanks, I'll be a happy camper.

This has been, along with the 7tcu, one of the calibers I have been looking at for building a rifle for deer hunting.  An 85 gr partition at 2800-2900 fps seems just about right.  They love them in southern africa for impala sized game, and the round is very easy to shoot accurately.  I was going to build one on a savage, but this one looks fun.  Can't wait to see a range report, and congrats Tim, I hope it is as much fun as it looks to be.

The 85gr Partition is the exact bullet I'm looking at loading for deer, Nosler's min spec for it to expand is 1800fps, starting out at 2700fps, it's still going 2158fps at 200yds with 879lbs energy. Yesterday I modified a Weaver 62 base and got it mounted, need to do a trigger job on it, right now it's a shade over 6lbs, I may drop in a low profile hammer while at it, but haven't decided on the scope yet, I may mount a Weaver 4x32 shotgun scope on it to keep it light and compact, it will mount with the existing hammer with just a hammer bob I think.

Yes, I have a 3-9x40 Redfield that I just mounted on my son's Winchester 670, if I were going to buy another scope, the 2-7x32 would likely be my first choice, but the Weaver weighs less than 9oz and is really small and I already have one which counts for a lot, I just bought a 50" plazma TV and blu-ray player, so my budget is a bit tight right now.  :D

Thanks Mike!!  ;)

Thanks Guys!! I got it all ready to play today, I swapped the hammer out for an old low style, drilled and tapped it for a Win M94 hammer extension, and did a 3½lb trigger job, mounted the Weaver 4x32 shotgun scope in low Burris Zee rings on a modified Weaver #62 base. Total weight is 6lbs-6.5oz just as you see it. For now I put a Handi-Grip stock set on it just to see how I like it, it feels real "Handi" and comes to the shoulder real nice, but time will tell. One thing I notices is the pistol grip is just right for carrying the rifle pointed down like a long barreled pistol, the short barrel is about 10" off the ground, I could almost shoot it one-handed!!  ;D

It really looks good with the stock and clean barrel.  Have ya made any brass yet?  At less than 6.5 lbs and that short barrel, it should be sweet in the field.  It seems just right for lugging over those mountains you guys have out there. ;D.......man, I'm glad I don't have to do that in my old age ;)
