870 Magnum
« on: June 28, 2010, 12:56:45 PM »
After several years of looking I was finally able to trade for one.

Looks like a nice one. Wish mine was blued instead of the matte finish.

Mine is the laminated stock witha Matte finish also . Put a few coats of Gun blue on the metal , and now it does not get rusty. Do not really like a shine on a shot gun.

I just traded my bps for a 870 magnum wingmaster a couple days ago.  It looks identical to yours.  I got to shoot it yesterday and i have to say it is one sweet shotgun.  have you fired it yet?  I want to find a slug barrel for it now so i can use it for deer hunting this fall.

Check out Cabelas , Gander mt. , ballastic products or Shotgun news for the slug bbl . And wingmasters aren't mags. Magnums are magnums not wingmasters different recivers . I mention this so someone won't shoot 3 inch shells in a wingmaster reciver . The Mag. bbl will fit and in some if not most cases the bbl has written on it something like 3 inch shells in magnum recivers only. And yes a good gunsmith can convert a wingmaster reciver to shoot 3 inch shells by opening the ejection port etc. but why ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

The Wingmaster is easy to convert to a magnum.

The ejection port is fine.  They just have to install a magnum ejector.

:D Swampman, Nice 870..look like the one I bought new about 1978....It is still one of my favorite shotguns..maybe my all time pick for an all round shotgun...Have used it on bobwhites to geese and turkey...Yours looks like a 30 inch full...????????? Nice gun enjoy...
Marine, your gun will shoot 3" fine..older Wingmasters were made only in 2 3/4" chambers...those guns will not eject a 3" shell if you placed a 3" barrel on them...but as Swampman pointed out a change in ejectors will solve that problem..I had my trap grade 870 changed to 3" so I could use it for waterfowl..you have no worries...

I'll either get the 30" cut to 26" and Remchokes installed or buy another barrel.

Probably....It's so nice I hate to cut it down.  It's just too long.

there are lots of used barrels out there for the taking.  i Pick them up at gunshows for cheap, around $70-$80 used but in nice shape.

Mine either say wingmaster or magnum , now I'm confused  ??? I have bbls marked for both depending on rec. and some marked single use ( these are old bbls )

Swampman , I had a 30 inch bbl cut to 23 3/4" ( where the post on the rib worked out ) and it is one of the best guns I have . I did this before turkey guns became all the rage . It has takem alot of game from deer to quail . I had Briley tubes installed and have most choke choices covered .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

That would save me a lot of money.  There's a place nearby that does it for $90.00.

If you do get the longer tubes that are treaded all the way , they have been great with every thing including steel and other duck loads . But XX full is a super choke for OOO buck. And # 6 shot
