Fluted cylinder
« on: June 28, 2010, 01:27:09 PM »
Tried the search function here on the FA site but no luck....can hardly believe factory fluted FA cyl's haven't been discussed before.

Anyone have a pic of a fluted cyl on either a M-83 or M-97??  Thinking of sending the  .45 Colt cyl on my 454 M-83 back to FA for the fluting.  $85 isn't too bad.

Do a Google image search for 'Freedom Arms fluted'. There'll be a fluted '97 44 special on the first page. Sorry I can't post the url from this computer...

Got it!  I'm so computer ILLITERATE...didn't even know an IMAGE search existed.

I like the look. May look more appropriate on my M-97 than on the 83 though??

Thanks.

Ken -- but our government says there is no inflation:

Frank,

M97 .45 Colt 3 1/2" Round Butt

M97 .44 Special 5.5" on top.

M97 .22 LR 5.5 Oct Bbl (.22 is a six shot, so flutes are between bolt notches.

Paul,

Great shots. Thanks for taking the time to post them.

I think I'm going to send the .45 Colt cylinder in and get it done.

The octagon barrel .22 is REALLY SWEET!!! Very unique.

I have the same EPS leather too BTW.

It's funny...everyone swoons over fluted cylinders on FAs, I guess because they normally don't come that way.  Conversely, folks go nuts over unfluted cylinders in Smith & Wessons and Rugers.  Go figure...

Ha Ha!!  I was just thinking the same thing.  We all want what we can't have I guess.

And if all of a sudden Colt or USFA discontinued the fluted cyl on their SAA's and went unfluted...We would ALL bitch about it.

The unfluted cylinder was one of the reasons I fell in love with the FA revolvers in the first place. It just looks mean and untamed without the flutes, IMO.
