257 Hornady and Speer Bullets
« on: June 29, 2010, 04:12:33 PM »
Has anyone been able to get a hold of any 110gr GMX or 120GR Deepcurl bullets yet? I am wanting to try both for a 257 Weatherby project but can't find any anywhere. If anybody has tried these bullets, pls let me know. Just looking for bullets, other than Barnes, that will stay together at 257 WM velocities. Thx for any help

I don't know if the deepcurl bullets are the same as the ones in Federal Fusions but if they are they held up very well out of a 25-06 at 30 yrds. That would be roughly equivalent in velocity to the WM a little further out

I don't know about the deep curl but the 120 grand slam is one tough bullet. At 3000 fps muzzle velocity from my 25-06 at about 40 yards I shot a big buck deer in the chest and found the bullet just under the hide on the right ham after it smashed the ball socket. Text book mushroom and weight was 87 grs.

If you what the purest premium bullet try a Nosler partition or accubond.

Also any bullet from Hornady, Speer, and Sierra will work fine.  The velocity isn’t that great in the 257 Weatherby Magnum and the old common cup core bullet will work just fine.  Weatherby still loads the Hornady 117 round nose which can be used in the 25-35 Winchester with excellent mushrooming.

ive used grand slams for years in the 257 wb 2506 and the 280 for hunting. Ive never had one fail in anyway and ive found that most of my guns shoot them  better then partitions and much better then  barnes.

Thx for the help. If anyone cares, the Deepcurl is supposed to run this month and be available soon after. The GMX isn't going to be available until mid October. Not a great time to release a huntin bullet, imho
