H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in Field & Stream
« on: June 30, 2010, 04:47:20 PM »
The H&R USH got the top slot in the new Field & Stream gun nuts edition in the deer slugger catogory above Tarhunt.

"I might have said it before but i don't mind saying it again: The Ultra Slug Hunter is the best bargain of any kind in shotgunning. Yes,it's a single-shot,but the way this gun shoots, one is plenty. Very soft kicking thanks to a 24-inch heavy-contour rifled barrel, this single-shot hammer gun delivers tight groups at a tightwads price" -PB

They have the price listed as $351 and the tarhunt price is $2835. ya gotta love it.

Spikehorn, I think you need a 12 ga. H&R USH. I just might know where there is one for sale.  ;D

Spikehorn,

The Tarhunt is also a bolt gun, so rating the H&R single shot first is great!  Everytime I read something good about the USH my Beretta slug gun starts getting nervous.  I think the Beretta is worried about losing it's job to a USH. ;)

My 20 ga. USH puts 3 copper solids into 1 hole at 50 yards. Not for sale.

I hunted with a mossberg trophy 500 rifled slug gun for years. I was fairly impressed with it. Killed quite a few deer with it. When I bought my 20ga tracker II from bobg, I had it drilled & tapped then put a tru Glo 2X red dot on it and proceded to shoot a 3 shot group at 65 yards that was 2 holes touching. I handed down my mossberg to my kid.

My 20 guage has 35 notches in the stock. Its the special edition with cinnamon laminated stock. Bought 8 years ago for $189. It just loves lightfields. I keep extra slugs in a sleeve right on the stock & can reload every bit as fast as a bolt gun. I also took the weight out of the stock so its not that heavy. Best money ever spent on a gun.  Mike

The lightfields are what my Tracker II likes to shoot. Got it just before deer season last year so only 1 notch.

I love my H&R.  I go out groundhog hunting with mine, anyhow, with my USH I can put 2 inch groups at 100 yards, 4 inch groups at 150 and finally, 6 inch groups at 200 yards.  It's an awesome gun for the money.

I love my USH 12GA as well...I take a little ribbing in deer camp due to it's weight....I just tell my friends that if I ever need to bludgeon something out in the woods, I will be better prepared than their light weight slug guns...Plus, the felt recoil is less for me than it is for them.  They call my USH the CANNON...I don't mind one little bit.
