Sub MOA Stainless 300 Win Mag

I don't have it home yet..later next week,but I'm in the process of getting a new Stainless Weatherby Sub Moa. It's in a caliber I have never owned,but have had some experience with. I had tried to get one like this is (black gray stock & stainless ) in 30-06 at my dealer..but the stainless ones are on back order..and won't be in till sometime later this summer.






 I had planned on shooting then re-chambering it to the AI version..after hunting season this year,but when my dealer brought this one out and showed me it..I just had to have it  I figured what the heck,might as well kick it up a few notches velocity wise over the 30-06 AI I was planning anyway and just get it from him. The trigger on it is factory set at 3 lbs 4 oz's  and has just the tiniest amount of creep in it.I am hoping this will smooth out over time without having to resort to replacing the trigger group on it. He got this one in last February from his rep..and it's just been sitting there waiting for me to come in and get it  I did bring the factory group test target home with me..since he knows it will be mine very soon..It shows a very nice group with it..so I am getting a couple boxes of the same ammo this one is most likely shot with (Federal) and clean it good and see if I can match the group shown here..Outside to widest outside measurement is .734"..which makes this one .426"..Gotta love it when it shows what the rifle is capable of with factory ammo..



Can't wait to get my Ziess on it and try it out..Just in time for some fun on my summer vacation next week..

You got me confused now Mac... You got upset at me for telling a guy to buy a bolt instead of a Handi and then you sell your Handi and buy a bolt.
I'm just bustin' on ya buddy... that Weatherby looks like a nice rifle and obviously it shoots well.
On another note... my dealer has a Zeiss just like yours on the shelf... I checked it out a couple days ago... very, very nice glass and crystal clear. It should top your new toy nicely. Incidentally, he was selling the Zeiss for $399... is that a good price?

If you can buy what I have for that price..run..don't walk back there and get it..especially if new..Heck..rerfurbs are running $500-600 with the Rapid Z reticles..

I choose my bolt for a number of reasons..Having just 1 rifle now..I had to get my  bolt to get the velocities I wanted out of a 30 cal..ya know..I could have gotten less..but I have had good luck with the Weatherbys before..and they have always shot great out of the box..even the cheaper versionn of the Vangaurd..The Handi's are ok..and for a person just wanting a simple rifle to hunt with who doesn't need a magnum or want a bolt..or can't afford 1 they are still a good choice...and comparing to any of the econo rifles were were discussing I still would recommend them..I held all of those cheap Remmy's,Savages,Stevens,Marlins,Mossbergs..again before making my choice and I personally dislike them all for 1 reason or another..They may shoot good..but..I just don't like them.. I don't like how they look or how they feel to me..personal choice of course..but that's just me..I have to feel good about what I am shooting.. Also..I plan on doing some long range shooting..and the 300 suited this better than just my o6'..

I got it home..and got the scope mounted..It's just in a set of Burris I had here which will change to Leupold's QRW's next pay day..

It balances very nice and the trigger is very nice on it...heck even my wife likes it..

  That rifle doesn't look like it has a wood stock on it. I'm glad you like this rifle, even though it's not a Handi...... Finding just the right rifle is something that I just fell into, normally, as most can attest, it takes years and years to do.

Have fun with it, I hope it shoots as well as that target shows. One of these days, I will post pics of my Weatherby SPM .243 and what it's capable of doing.

It initially was going to be the Deluxe 30-06 which was stainless and had the wood stock on it..but I was offered this one for not more.I figured what the heck...if it gets me where I want to be without spending more restocking it and adding a different trigger group why not give it a go and try it for a while. As to it not being a Handi..well..I've spent enough time with them in my life to know I could never get the velocities safely with them as I can with this one..The Handi's are a fun little gun but they aren't the best suited for my needs right now. I saw a couple Predators a while back in 22-250 and 308..they looked nice.Glad yours shoots as well as you want it to.

Finally got a little range time this morning with the new MOA 300 Win Mag. I really like this new rifle...a-lot. While it does have some kick to it,it wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be shooting in the heat with just a t-shirt on..Very similar to a light weight 30-06 with 180 factory loads. I did a lot of guessing where to start loading for this one,with all of the good info I have received for it,and just started loading with some 168 grain Berger VLD Match Hunting bullets..some 168 grain Sierra Match and some 155 grain Sierra Palma Match bullets It liked the Berger's more with the Reloader 22 powder I was using over the Sierra's so I still will have to do some tweaking to get better. I was shooting through the chrono on these groups..so that might have had a hand in the size of the group..so I'll be retesting them later next week.This was at just 100 yards and the first group shot too from this rifle..so it might settle down some too..The first 3 on the left are the first 3 shots..and I just aimed to the right and continued firing.

The 155 Palma's was clocking at 3200FPS with IMR 4350



The next group is the 168 Sierra's with a start load of Reloader 22 Velocity was 3000fps..Since I was way right this time I adjusted the scope and continued firing..



The mirage was bad even at 100 yards with the heat..so I let it cool down for 30 minutes while working with my co-works Savage 308 target gun..We worked all day yesterday teaching him how to reload..and I think he did real well for his first time rolling his own..He picked up some of the regular match 168 Berger's..and some Benchmark and we loaded up to 39 and 39.5 grains with them .002" off the lands with both the hunting and the match bullets ..He got a lot of doubles with them after dialing in his Springfield scope..so not too bad at all for 2 different bullets IMHO..



Well..even after 1/2-3/4 hour waiting..the barrel was still hot..but went ahead and shot mine again,this time with the 168 grain Berger's..



I think this is a combination to shoot again and keep..3100 FPS isn't the hottest loading for them..but it sure does shoot the Berger's pretty good..

So..not too bad for my first time out with it..and I look to have a few other bullet makes and weights to try out too,,

Well...even a blind squirrel finds a acorn every now and then....

It certainly has a preference of the Berger's over the Sierra's with those 2 weight/powder combinations any ways..I am very happy so far knowing it does as well as the factory group with a bullet like the Berger.Lots more testing to go though..and at a much further yardage too..I'll be shooting out to 400 yards next time to see how it goes with that load..

Going to try some 168 A-max and 200 gr. Accubonds tonight after it cools off some.I'm going to try some evening shooting and see how that works out for a change..
