For the last couple years i've been having a problem, after a hard rain a lot of water crosses my back field, and goes down my road that leades into that field. The bulk of the water comes from my neighbors place, and i FINALLY decided to do something about it. SO, i started up my dozer, and pushed out a berm of top soil, to redirect the water to where "i" wanted it to go.
I left the berm until this spring, and then without picking the rocks/roots/stumps or anything out of it, i got on top of it with my tractor and rotavator, and rotavated the heck out of it!
My friend who owns some greenhouses, has asked me a few times, if i would plant some pumpkins for her here on my place, on "shares"... I never wanted them in my gardens, so i never took her up on it. BUT, i got to thinking about that berm out there, that is all rich top soil, and thought maybe that would be a good place for the pumpkins. So, i got the seed from her, and planted them when she wanted them planted, which was the 15th of last month... Here they are 16 days later.....the first few plants are butternut squash,
AND, today when i was out there, here's what i saw in my pumpkin patch,
A hen turkey takeing a dust bath, and teaching another generation to do the same!
I left them some space when i planted the pumpkins, so hopefully they will use "it" instead of my pumpkins to bath in... lol
