I got it Lloyd.......but you're welcome to come over and share it ;)

A friend of mine is an outfitter in Gould City.  He's got a great track record on bear.  He baits 3 blinds per hunter.  He also gets 1800 bucks.  I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and do it that way.  I'm almost 70 and there's no telling if I'll be still around and able to do it by the time I get my next tag.

Seriously, come over if you can, it would be fun to sit in a blind with you.

Hey Pete,

I'm clicking over 66 this year, thinking of retiring to Northern MI if we can afford it (afford either the retiring or the move  :D).  Any tips on finding a place for a family of three with three dogs and three cats?

I know, this has nothing to do with bears, forgive my diverting the thread, please resume posting about bear permits!

Thanks!

My buddy, Todd Miller, north of me and across the road is a forester with Grossman Forestry in Newberry.  Todd is also a realtor.  He's an avid hunter and fisherman.  Grossman manages my timber.  Todd can show you places for sale where you can hunt and or fish and also get cash back for your timber.  I'd call him at  his office 906 293-8707.

If you can put it together, move up here.  I did it 20 years ago and it's the best thing I ever did.  It's a buyer's market here now, and your buck'll go a long way...........hopefully not the one you shoot this Fall ;D

Thanks for the information, Pete!  I was in da Yoop in 1985, taking core samples around the telephone company's fuel tanks for an engineering firm I was working for.  Spent a couple of months there, driving from site to site, and really liked it.

pete if you have a first season permit id just start throwing so corn out now and see if you can get one to come in. You can  buy a hell of a lot of corn for 1800 bucks. Ive shot enough bear in my life that it doesnt do much for me anymore. Its mostly just an excuse to be in the woods with a cool gun. I personaly wouldnt pay a 100 bucks to someone to hunt one. Hell they can be shot right off your back porch up here. believe me, ive done it a number of times. As a matter of fact my bird feeder is laying on the ground right now.

Yup, the bird feeders are not safe up here that's for sure.  I didn't draw a tag this year either.  Had a little guy (125 lbs) cross the road in front of me yesterday.

No bear tag for me either this year. I had 6 points going in, now 7 for next year. I put in for 1st season only. I thought I had a good chance but my point group seems to have a larger than average number of hunters applying. There is one relation(resident) that got a tag. He will be hunting at our setup.

1sourdough, are you here on Da U.P too?  I don't understand why you didn't get a tag.  I had 5 points and got Newberry first season.
