Holster for a Model 744 VH 44 Magnum Need help ?
« on: July 03, 2010, 07:20:08 PM »
I am left handed and come across a Desantis LH shoulder holster for a S&W N frame Model 29 44 Magnum 8 3/8" barrel, question is will my pistol fit this holster or will my DW be too large for the holster mine is a 744 VH 8" barrel stainless steel.Dont have any way of carrying this pistol and have no idea the size of the S&W 29 44 magnum,my barrel is 8" so no problem there what about this holster will it work for my DW 744 VH 44 ? Thanks Dakoma

If the holster is made out of leather and if it's molded to fit that S&W it might be a tight fit. I have a Bianchi shoulder rig and it is made out of some type of black codova I think. And I carry my DW VH8", S&W mdl 29 8 3/8" and my Rugers RedHawk 7 1/2" - BlackHawk 45LC 7 1/2" All with that same holster. I guess because the material is a  little flexable. Do a web seach to see if the company has a web site and email them with a question about the holster.

Thank you it is made of a tan or light brown leather and was pictured with the S&W in the holster and seemed it was large enough and then some so I went and spent $40.00 for it,the way it is made looks like I could modify it if it is too snug and maybe make it work.It was on a forum and LH Holster dont always show up so mailed payment off yesterday and then run across a picture of the 2 side by side and was surpised at the size compared DW was larger.I dont know a model number for the holster or that would have been a good idea.I can stitch leather and have the stuff in case it needs more room, hopeing it dont though $40.00 is a sweet deal and looked new. Thanks Dakoma

if you have the full underlug it is doubtful your gun will fit a holster made for a S&W.

call rob at simply rugged holsters. he has made several holsters for me and they are all very nice! he is a good guy to deal with and can make whatever you want. www.simplyrugged.com

My Desantis come today and the Dan Wesson 744 VH fits like a glove.I adjusted it for my body size and have worn it all day was concerned with the snap to secure it in the holster and found it went behind the trigger inside the trigger guard and snaps secureing it verry well and easly unsnaps causeing no problems with drawing the pistol $40.00 was a sweet deal and I love the holster. It will serve me well and now to get my 358 Winchester rifle project done and I will be ready for some Tennessee Hog hunting. Thanks for the link though and all for your help.Dakoma ;D

I was going to post a couple pictures but dont know how,the controls here seem diferent than elseware .Other than a little diry from laying around it apears new or not used much if any, while adjusting it to fit me one of the snaps separated and broke looked like it was not crimped proper I had some stainless poprivets and repared it better than it was and glad it happened at home instead of in the woods.Looks like the way it was moulded it was for a barrel with a underlug and may be made for another pistol anyway. There are markings that say Desantis 68 and that is all inside of a square on the backside.
