truck cost

got bored yesterday. thought i'd go look at ford trucks. pulled in next to a white 4 door f-150. price was 57,000+.  how in the hell can a working man buy a new truck now days?? i've got a 2006 toyota tacoma i paid around 23,000. for it.  guess mine will have to do. they just ain't worth that kind of money.

Start your own company...around here most of them are being written off by farmers or contractors.

I bought an 82 F100 for $600, rebuilt the motor and brakes, changed the fluid in the 9", new radiator,  etc now I have about $4000 in it.  granted it does not have Ac and is not as cushy as a new truck.  But it has a huge full 8 ft bed

57k..Wow. I suppose that thing had some serious options. Everybody's standards have gotten so high that's all they build anymore. A relative has a 40 or 50-something Studebaker 3/4 ton in a pole shed, I was looking at it a few years ago. Flathead 6, power nothing, three on the tree as I recall. I'd bet most people would have some sort of weepy meltdown if they had to drive something like that nowadays. What? no Sirius or GPS or OnStar or AC or cupholders? AAAHHH!

I make a halfway decent living but have pretty much given up on owning a truck/4x4 anything at this point which is a bummer but that's the way it is. I live debt-free and you can't buy stuff like that thing you saw living like that. You can't buy anything stripped anymore, there was a thread about this on here a while ago, I think it was Ironglow was wanting a basic truck and discovered you can't readily find them any more. Maybe if the economy stays bad for a long time and gas seriously gets high and stays there, that's all I can see changing things. I hear folks going on about the economy but judging from the tackle I see getting driven on the roads (and in the parking lot at work) folks have money to burn as far as I can tell!

Most of the trucks on the lots today are fancy loaded up trucks. I guess that is what people want, and are buying.
 I bought a super duty XL in 04 and it has no power locks or windows, rubber floor mat, no fog lights, just a cloth bench seat, no fancy stereo, no cruise control. Reg. cab, Manual hubs, Automatic tranny, with 4:10 rears.
You can still get an XL but, you can't get the smaller V8 in the super duty anymore, just the 6.2. I think they are around 32K with 4 wheel drive. That is still a lot of money for a pickup. I will never buy another new pickup. When I bought the 04, I was working a lot of overtime, and was able to swing it with out much problem.

I just bought a 2010 Silverado Chevy a week and a half ago for $22,000.00. Sounds like your taste in trucks is richer than mine. 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty and all, not bad, and a great lookin truck. Gets almost 20mpg already, and I have put 1700 miles on it in a week and a half.

KT, check out Chevy. They still sell the basic work truck. Roll up windows, self locking doors, rubber instead of carpet, auto tranny, basic AM/FM, long wide, or short wide, small V8 or V6, plain wheels but, great trucks. The truck I bought last week had carpet, door locks, power mirrors, auto tranny, chrome wheels the usual, but no where near the 50s.

My whole problem is I need more truck than I can really afford.

I have to tow a heavy boat so a bigger engine and towing package.

I use it for hunting and launching the boat so 4x4.

I have two kids and two parents that I have to run around so extended cab.

I haul musical equipment and stuff for vacations ( the parents usually come with) so I need a cap.

This is the first truck I've owned without an 8' bed. Never again.

In April, I bought my wife a 1998 Explorer 5.0 V8 Leather interior and power everything. Excellent shape and only 59,000 miles on it. I gave 4800 bucks for it. I had to put 3 ball joints and a tie rod end on it.

We found the original sticker in the owners manual...39,900! Were they insane? I shudder to think what they would want for a comparable Explorer new today.

I will never buy a new car again it's just not worth it.

I'll second the motion to check out Chevy.  My father-in-law just bought an 2010 1500 WT a couple of months ago.  4.8L, Ext Cab 4 door, 4x4 with locking rear diff, 3.42 gears (tow package) cruise, satellite radio, 17" wheels, cloth seats, rubber floors, for $25,000 out the door with 0% financing, and that's with a $1800 set of racks/toolboxes that the dealer threw in for free to seal the deal.

Here's what makes that more appreciable.  He bought the same truck (except for cruise) back in 2002.  No racks either, no 0%, and it was $25,000 too.  Same truck 8 years later for the same price. 

I've got the 2002 now, and I do have to say that the quality of the materials for the interior on the new truck doesn't seem close to the quality of the older one.  Other than that, the 2010 is a sweet truck.

The Ford's are nice trucks, but I don't like what they did to them for the 2010 model year.  Sorry, but a 1/2 ton truck isn't worth $50,000, I don't care what options it has.  I like the 04-08 models the best.

In San Antonio, you can get any of the Big Three 1/2 ton's in crew cabs and 4x4 for less than 30k right now.  May not be big enough for you but they aren't 50k either.

went to the chevy store yesterday. traded my 2006 toyots for a crew cab 4X4 with all the bells, 11,000.00 . that was not too bad.

I just found a 2008 F350 with a utility bed for 20000 . A guy got it 4mos ago from the dealer for 21000 . It had been on the lot for a long time but sold as new with warranty . He found out that 11 mpg was not in his budget and wants to get out of the payment . last one i got was 28000 new in 2007 . Anyway if you are looking for a good work truck ya might look for a older new truck on a lot .
