Celebrating July 4th, 2010
« on: July 04, 2010, 07:10:59 AM »
Any morning that I get out of bed and both feet hit the floor without my nose following them, is the beginning of a great day.

Noon Gun!!!

Now I BBQ with my other smoker. ;D

Our celebration will be tonight - off our neighbor's poarch/front yard.
Small family fireworks display.

The man lives for fire & smoke...... but fire crackers???  They just don't cut it.  I'm disappointed in you ::)  What's for dinner? At least that might save your day :-\  I'm doing pulled pork, ribs, chili and a REAL cannon.

Zulu,
A nice inviting spot among the greenery. Board fence; suburbia?  Hence, wooden cannon(s)?

What are you using for smoke?  I use a cherry & apple mix from my fruit tree prunings that I run through a chipper and sugar maple too.  Depends upon what I'm smoking.

As for my cannon, I'm feeding it Skirmish and the report doesn't seem to be as loud as with Goex.

I just did the 4 O'c gun and my wife came out and asked, "Why a thud and not a crack?".

The noon gun was the same. It was loud enough to stop my neighbor on his tractor as he was baling hay a mile away as the report rolled out the valley but it just doesn't seem as loud as usual. Probably the atmosphere.

I use 9 ply of heavy duty foil but I may lengthen the cartridge to add more foil for a thicher/heavier top crimp to contain the expanding gas a little more. Scientific experiment # 573

Certainly suburbia. :P
I'm using oak.  I wrap my brisket in two wraps of foil after 4 hours ;D ;D ;D

Nice digs!

We just got in from spending a couple of days with my wife's family in FL, so no cannon shooting today.

(We did shoot some firearms while down there. Now my wife wants a S&W Airweight snubbie in .22 LR like her sister has, and her sister wants an evil black rifle like mine!)

Tomorrow the air will be foul with the stench of brimstone!

I'd like to tell Dom that his French 75 ...... ruled the neigborhood tonight.

I have taken a liking to a southern varriation on the hotdog bun wad . I find that tortillas work very nice ! NO not corn ones ....flour ones ,cut a little rectangle roll it up to bore dia. and seat firmly .

This place is still going strong ..... Dom your welds are the best ! Tracy said so too !

BTW I scratched the paint up ,and went to retouch and ended up cammoing the tube .  The spokes are brown . Some muzzle stripes are on it too .

Here is my "Cracker Battery"

With the rain tonight ..... and lots of it ,the little guns just get wet and the powder is spoiled too quick .

Lots of fireworks, one pic.  Delay on camera (between pressing shutter and camera taking picture) is most frustrating.

Good time with neighbors - cook out etc.

The Zen of BBQ, huh! Well, I always did figure you to be some form of incarnation of a bodhisattva, but I never figured on a Barbecue Buddha.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

I had to show off my little cannon for my neighbors last night.  As everyone around use popped little fireworks, no doubt I scared a few with this  ;D  The ones watching were impressed!    Was also the first time I heard my barrel ring like it did.  Kinda cool/weird at the same time.  (sorry for the long fuse....)

I'm of the age where I would need some sort of railing on the stairs... don't bounce as well as I used to.

Evil dog, you may need rails to get up there but I could not climb up there to save my life, literally.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

Zulu,

Has anyone ever partaken of one cerveza fria too many, and had trouble on the way down?

Hey, that sounds right, but on one of those 'rare' occasions when my "last one" transports me to a world of absolute certainties like: "hey, these stairs look like a piece of cake", it's possible that I could run into some difficulties.
